Imagine every horror movie but zombie movies completely flopped. Would horror even be a genre or they just be called scary Sci-Fi/Fantasy movies that have zombies in them. The "sub-genre" IS Smash. It is the most popular sub genre because Smash is a popular game but yeah. That just boils down to "Smash is popular" not "it invented a popular sub-genre" --- No problem!
