It sounds like the original anime is more on the Idolmaster/LL side of things like I expected with this one, probably more towards IM? You could say that. It actually gets compared to Love Live a lot because they're just forming a group without any agency involved, and they're all in high school. Season 1 being as low budget as it was, almost tanked the entire franchise. It was the game that really saved it.
