Topic	Finally finished FF7 Rebirth. Thoughts (SPOILERS)

Like at that very moment, he's doing the exact same thing he did following Zack's death where he's denying reality and crafting a new one in his head so that he doesn't have to deal with the trauma he would have felt otherwise. (Someone else can probably put it into much better words lol).
