It's a credibility line of examination. I would assume that they are aiming for the characterization that Cohen is a jilted former member of Trump's inner circle or something like that. I guess there's not much else they can do. I think the prosecution is well aware that Cohen has credibility issues. The real star witnesses are the documents that prove the case.
