NFTs won't enhance your ownership because
1) The image itself is still stored off the blockchain, so you have to hope whoever is actually hosting the image is still hosting it.
and
2) The game itself has to support that NFT. How a game uses that data (if it uses it at all) is up to the game developers and they'd have to program that functionality in. If it's some generic implementation then you'll have broader support but a likely more dull game since items won't be unique but rather treated as a set of stats, not to mention balance issues. So developers would have to be more explicit in their support.
