I eventually learned that the original saying was, "You can't eat your cake and have it too", which makes a lot more sense and gets the message across better. I have no idea why it was changed. This has also been a big one for me. Even when I was little, I knew the expression simply just didn't make sense. That being said, the original saying DOES make more sense.
