If they did, they genuinely risk losing support. The dems at best are not the monsters. If they visibly become the monsters, then they lose more support than they gain.

However, if Biden were bloodlessly sabotage Trump and his backers via immunity, he and the dems could maybe get the next four years. At this point, Trumps campaign and and the organizations supporting him could all probably all be barred by making implementing a rule banning those using hate speech, not protected as free speech, from taking office or something. Some say thats a slippery slope, but I think Germany had the right of it.
