What are you getting all pissy about? Soccer, as an abbreviation for association football, is originally a British term anyway. Why do you care if Americans keep using it?

Yeah, it always baffles me how few people that complain about the term "soccer" appear to know Americans didn't come up with it, in the first place. Americans literally use it exactly how the British did: To differentiate between different kinds of "football," hence "rugger" and "soccer."
