It is possible that they had every chance to tell their parents and he wasn't trying to hide that fact but yeah, this is really strange and done terribly... no proof of abuse or molestation but even then, it isn't like you could just be alright with it even if it was innocent. Just....very unexpected. If they didn't want to be with their parents then that changes the situation entirely and I can see the dynamic being a lot different there.
