I'm not fundamentally opposed to Sonic having a human love interest except that this franchise has a history of bringing in new characters for exactly one game and then forgetting they exist. (Quite literally, in the case of 06 lmao)

That and there's only so much time in a 6-hour platforming game about cartoon woodland critters fighting mad scientists and eldritch horrors that you can devote to "romance" so any satisfying romance would have to be a character whose had enough screentime with Sonic over the course of the series.
