thing about taiwan also is that japan has explicitly said they'd consider it an act of war and would immediately rev up a military, as per the treaty after WW2. the koreas would also likely get involved shortly after, split between Japan/Korea/Taiwan and China/North Korea. wouldn't take much to get other Asian countries (see: any country within the seven seas, Vietnam) or Australia either. basically you need economic and militaristic power alongside global relevance and unfortunately China/Taiwan/Japan alone accomplishes this threshold. soon as the Koreas come in that's it.

now there'll come a time when Taiwan won't be as relevant yeah. but still a good decade from that so it ends up just being a case where China can start a world war and... that's it.
