It's nothing compared to the difficulty later in the game. It gets basically impossible.

Assuming we're talking about the remake. The original, the game started fairly hard, and it ended fairly hard. In the remake, it starts brain-numbingly easy, and eventually becomes impossible post game.

Which is fascinating, looking back at all the posts about it being too easy when it first came out. Nobody knew that you'd be fighting 3 King Hydras, bosses in their own right, each with 3 turns that completely lock you down with status effects, and this is a normal, regular encounter.
