see i'm in the category that looks at things, goes "well some of this is broken, but a lot of the system was already broken and much of what's happening is revealing that." so it'll get worse before it gets better but i'm still pretty hopeful it gets better.

the USAID shit is just a slam dunk of that example. do people want their taxes used for that, no. do people care that it got revealed through convoluted legal mechanisms to make DOGE, no. at least, not compared to the waste being found because the view goes "that's my money, why is it being used in these ways." that's largely how certain affairs are being handled right now it seems; trump does something questionable, yet it's for something that's popular so it's allowed. or trump does something stupid/crazy, it isn't popular, but it's just chucked under the bed because there's so many things happening that it doesn't matter as much. he's not working exclusively under that view but a good chunk of what he's said/his press secretary has said keep being coded in "this is what's popular, this is what the people want."

edit: or to simplify, it's a very "the ends justify the means" mentality. which, for a lot of people who've been burned by the system or are frustrated or think the country's been going the wrong way for over a decade now? yeah, that's appealing. it just also means that you're gonna end up in a lot of shit, both from the means and from all the stuff revealed.
