| v_charon 04/26/25 7:29:51 PM #141: | You know what, it wasn't bad at all. I'd almost go so far as it say it was actually pretty nice. The thing it isn't, of course, is Until Dawn. You can see the inspiration, in a couple of areas, but it does just feel like an unconnected entity. That said, I feel like it fits well in Supermassive's catalog however. Like from the setup to how some of the scenes are shot, I could totally buy this as a film version of like an unreleased Dark Pictures game from them. The characters are okay. Nothing mind-blowing but the acting is competent and while I wouldn't say there were any standouts, I don't feel like anyone got lost or blurred together like is the case with many other films with this young adult style of cast. The movie probably shines the brightest once the action beats start coming; our theater was pretty loaded but unfortunately we had some young Gen Z people right to our right doing the typical behavior of making too much noise and constantly on the phone. But one particular scene finally made them pay attention, react to the film and put away their social media for a second. I liked that. This was also a movie that benefited from its R rating; the kills are pretty gruesome and they don't shy away from using effects to emphasize them. But yeah, it was actually an enjoyable little film if you set aside the property it's based on. --- :> Truly smilin' ... Copied to Clipboard! |
