Also, A renewed liberal party and weak NDP meant most NDP strongholds were split down the middle, which ironically led to a lot of conservative gains. This isn't really a sign that conservatism is taking a hold here - conservatives will vote conservative and literally nothing can change their minds - however the sort of natural state of Canadian politics is a liberal minority government.
