I'm old enough to remember when if something was on the cart or on the disc, it was on there. That's just how it was. Patches as a thing for consoles has been great in regards to new content, but changing the core experience from the initial release has made the product feel less stable, less like a moment in time preserved for us to play. Worrying that other players are doing something in the game that "makes it too easy" is just being egocentric. A single player game is their experience, not yours.

Of course, it's great for getting rid of those occasional game breaking bugs that you still have to deal with in some old otherwise good games..
