I guess, putting it another way, the moment-to-moment gameplay running around the various areas doing world intel and sidequests was spectacular and I loved it a lot. Even annoying sections like mushroom jumping in Gongaga were fun in retrospect. That, coupled with the character writing and 90% of the plot writing, more than made up for flaws in the overall story or having too many crappy minigames. I loved going to a new area and then just venturing out. Hopping between objectives was addictive and satisfying, and that's why Rebirth is my overall favorite.
