Side note, but if Trump dies of old age, I think 2028's bench will likely be Carlson vs. Vance or some alleged inheritor of Trump's political movement. Without Trump to engage with it, Carlson will win a primary, and all bets are off on how a 2028 race goes. I could easily see Carlson making his play far, far, far too early and bombing, which is why I think he waits, lets the GOP simmer in anger, then approaches the bench to take it over as an outsider defined predominantly on white nationalist politics in a more explicit way in the 2030s. I don't think this would win nationally and would hope things don't get that bleak, but who knows.
