it worked for the commander decks

it depends on how much is made
That had nothing to do with them printing more than expected. That had a lot more to do with scalpers not really getting that Commander decks historically get three runs, and so when the second and third run happened they kind of just had to give up.

The extreme price early on was certainly higher than normal (no thanks to Wizards increasing the base cost), but historically Commander decks never go above MSRP outside of the initial rush beyond the "big winner" commander deck(s) (an example of this would be the FFVII one still being above MSRP due to coming with Clever Concealment, Tifa, and Skullclamp + Lightning Greaves). This is made all the more evident when you consider that the FFVI one was the most expensive pre-launch due to scalpers, but once it came time for the normal MtG cycle to happen it ended up being the one that you can consistently find as the only card that really matters for people who don't have an particular desire to collect the cards is Reanimate: a reprint.

By comparison Cloud (as I used as the example) is a card that holds a lot of value right now due to just how playable it is + it being a popular character. Unlike the Commander decks it isn't an overall product but instead an individual card, which means that its price will actually fluctuate a bit differently based on speculation + play rather than strictly because of just printing. And if this is a form of guaranteed promo for the bundle it really won't take a whole lot for the price of the default Cloud to get hit as its value is based on playability + rarity, and even the most minor printings in this nature ends up massively reducing the price. Scavenging Ooze is a great example of this as it was $40 prior to getting a promo printing, but with the promo printing it basically died price-wise and hit <$1.
