12. I'm Still Here (Treasure Planet) - Nominated by Justin Crossing
Well I see Genesis is giving me multiple sad faces and no Disney topic should begin its swansong with sadness so I guess I have to put these last two non top ten writeups before the topic sinks into oblivion.
This writeup can be summed up with I really, really like the Goo Goo Dolls. One of my favorite bands ever and I went so far as to purchase this song off of Itunes and then re-watched Treasure Planet for the first time in years. I kind of regretted that as Treasure Planet is a really bad movie that just happens to have a couple amazing songs by the Goo Goo Dolls in it. This is going to be the most negative writeup in a long time by far because I really dislike this movie to the point I am unsure if I should even bother.
Okay so the song itself: Fantastic sounding, although it doesn't really suit Jim that well far as I am concerned. Jim deserved a much crappier song than this, because he is bothersome. He should have been thrown off the boat instead of Arrow and then the movie would have been glorious. That being said this is a song that I have a great difficulty placing outside of my top ten. I just love listening to it that much. But as you may have caught onto with Go The Distance there is more to a song with me than just how much I enjoy jamming to it. Which in this case is a metric ton. I was shocked when I started to listen to this song because I completely forgot about them doing work on this soundtrack. I am in an interesting place because I love this song and hate the movie almost as much. It isn't that the movie was terrible outright, it was that it gave you some amount of hope that it could turn around before crushing your spirit into dust.
I like my villains to be villainous. The main villain of this damn movie turned out to be a lackey who was really trying hard not to be a lackey. That is so stupid. Villains should be evil and have motivations and be accompanied by song. This movie is right in the middle of the Disney dark ages for that very reason. The villain is trying to be a good person, there is no princess for Jim to try to cozy up to, and the main character is a cheeky brat who I could barely stand who just so happens has an amazing theme song except for the minor problem that it is better than anything he does in this entire movie.
The side characters are pretty good though. B.E.N. Is fun times and Captain Amelia is a great side character. Also Jim's mom is a MILF if I could be allowed to go there. All hail Sarah Hawkins. And all hail the Goo Goo Dolls.

Oh god, Jim wasn't that bad! >_> I mean if there's any Disney protagonist who's sudden disappearance I feel would improve his movie that would be Kuzco. That guy is ten times the brat Jim Hawkings will ever be. I don't recall Jim being offensively bad... Don't recall the movie being offensively bad either, but that's mostly because it's so forgettable I can't recall anything I should be blatantly offended by!

Now that sounds pretty familiar. As a kid, I had high hopes for that movie because the trailers made it look f***ing amazing. Then I actually watched it and... arghflarglemehgargle.
Also I don't usually ask, but could someone actually post more than cursory thoughts to my Go the Distance write up? I mean I really worked hard on that one <_<

I pretty much agree with everything you said in that giant write-up. I Can Go the Distance fits the movie and the character perfectly. It has such an epic feel to it early on as well. Lyrically I think it is one of my favorite songs, the big problem (and you mentioned this in there) is that the song is better seperated from the movie because of the interruptions.
I actually have the song at the start of a playlist that I listen to when I am feeling down (the Bolton version just fyi). It really is just a great uplifting song.

Haha, not laziness this time. Just putting the finishing touches on my room and my brother is a real slave driver. The write up will be up later today, its about half way done =P

11. Under the Sea (The Little Mermaid) Nominated by rychu_supadude
I don't know if Genesis is going to be happy that her top ten prediction doesn't suffer another blow or sad that her favorite song isn't higher. Okay, so I know the answer to that but it made for such a good lead in! Truth be told I had this song a few spots lower before I reconsidered it and decided that just because Sebastian didn't have what I would call a strong singing performance (see: my top ten. A vast majority of them have absolutely stellar singing) that didn't override the absolutely amazing sound of this song. While I have an undeniable love of singers songs are of course about more than just the vocals and no song does a great job of showcasing this more than Under the Sea.
Poor Sebastian though, doing all that awesome work and Ariel just sneaks out at the very first chance. I really don't like the girl at all, and the last song from the movie is going to feature a lot of rage to go along with my love of her singing voice. But anyway what I think this song does so well is just an an excitement to what is being talked about. The point of the song is to convince Ariel to forget her stupid whimsy and to enjoy the life she has by making the sea sound amazing and the song sells it so well. While I don't appreciate his voice all that much the passion and emotion he ranges from sad to passionate to joy is pretty impressive to me. He has a very textured and varied voice throughout this song and no two lines seem to be sung in quite the same tone and that adds a lot to the song from a singing perspective.
Naturally we cannot forget about the blow fish blowing, which makes me laugh every time because I am a horrible person.
So the theme for this song is pretty obvious: Appreciation. Sebastian wants Ariel to appreciate all of the wonderful things she has going on for her and to make her understand the trouble she could get herself into by pursuing dangerous goals. Now I am never one to tell someone to give up on their dreams and because Disney isn't cruel it works out in the end but really it shouldn't have. I love this song so much because through all of the sound and the great scene in and of itself it is one big show aimed at one small little girl that failed because she doesn't know how to see such a wonderful and giant scene that Sebastian painted.
Taking a step back and not trying to see what this song's theme is it is just a pleasurable listen. It is three minutes of fast paced fun that I can hum along to at any time and be pretty pleased. This is a song that has grown on me over the years, and one I wouldn't have been able to appreciate a few years ago as much as I do now. My taste has certainly changed radically in that time.
With that my top ten is known! I can hear some boos already.

And Pram, you have Son of Man twice in your rankings. Since I already did my predix, I'll help fill this topic with my own ranking of your top ten. Note: My tastes have changed a bit since my own topic.
