I had the same exact problem. I had to research how to answer the question when i was about to start my first day on a job. Everyone seems to be into rap or rock, but im only into jrock, the only american music i like is pop and it only sounds cool to teens.

Just say you are also into hip hop, and you like drake. Everyone loves Drake and you are officially accepted into society if you like him.

Every time I answer, "Korean music," I get asked, "What? Korean?"

"Korean. Pop, rock, hip hop, rap, etc. Mostly pop and rock though"

They just kinda walked away :(

Up to the age of 22 or so the only music I ever bought was rap. It was good then. Now I like some of the things my parents listened to. Rap now is total crap and pop is for 12 year olds now.

I'd say r&b is my favorite, especially the slow jams. I like rap though but I usually stay with certain artists until someone can really pull me in.

Certain pop and rock songs are nice too.

I've been listening mostly to videogame soundtracks as of late.
I might not have much time to play the actual games but I can at least listen to the soundtracks from games I'd like to play.

Growing up: Mostly pop as that were most of the songs in the UK charts(perhaps it still is now).
From the age of around 18: Mostly Mental. Nu Metal to be specific.

Any suggestions? I mainly only know Crystal Kay, Mai Kuraki, and Dreams Come True (most of their stuff from the last ten years or so has been R&B).

I love rock; purist, alternative and some heavy metal.

When I'm not listening to rock, I listen to slow music, ballads and power ballads.

Mostly I'd listen to music from the 70's, 80's and the 90's.

I also like some artists from way back when like Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra.

Today's music aren't for me; too noisy and a lot of them have lyrics are just.....

In reality, mainly prog rock/metal and similar stuff, but those are perceived as being for virgins, so instead when people ask me I'll usually just say something like "pretty much whatever"

The same artists tend to collaborate with each other, so I could list some labels and musicians and you'd probably get a good idea of what I am or would be into.

Labels: TDE, Brainfeeder
Artists: Nujabes, Wax, Dumbfoundead, Bonobo, Andrew Bird...

I also dabble in foreign music sometimes just to try something different. And if you're doing your own thing and experimenting with your style, I'll probably be into it at least a little.

Besides my actual collection, I like almost any genre of music. As long as it's not super weird or questionable content, I can groove to pretty much whatever, from jazz to country to classical to reggae.

Mostly folk/alt/classic rock, Baroque and pre-Baroque classical music, and video game music (which is usually multi-genre music).

I'll listen to pretty much any genre but I tend to get increasingly picky the less I like said genre. I despise most hip-hop and country, for example, but there are exceptions that I quite like. Then again, I don't think I've ever heard a modern R&B song that I liked. Classic blues/soul music appeals to me, but I find R&B to be whiny and uninteresting.
