As I was saying weeks ago, Jess & Cody are not good TV. They suck tremendously at BB too.

They are good TV. They ARE terrible players, though.

Jessica was one of the only people this season to have balls - like she dropped the bomb that she had a superpower on the live show, stymieing ChenBot. She then messed it up by telling everyone what it was, instead of making them all paranoid about it.

It's good TV to watch someone have the fortitude to stand up to bullies. Bullies are not good TV.

But as a whole, this cast just sucks, sadly...

Jessica had balls because she had a secret power that she knew gave her complete power. The very next week, she isolated herself from the rest of the house, alongside Cody, and only grew bold when up against Josh (who let's face it, is extremely weak-willed and easy to attack.) I was rooting for Jody for a long time, but they ultimately just have this arrogance about them like the rest of the house should automatically do what they want. Yes, Paul is running shit. But you need to fucking put the work in.

Apparently, Cody revealed to Kevin that he has a daughter. Given the house's recent tendencies towards attacking Cody as a human being, he asked Kevin to keep this a secret. Kevin did not, and in fact joined in on bashing Cody for leaving his daughter behind to play Big Brother.

I dunno all the context because the sites I've read haven't really touched on it other than people in the comments sections, but apparently he's expressed romantic/sexual interest in Christmas or something (I don't think to Christmas, just in general)? And has joked about ways to cheat on your wife to other guys or something? He's just been getting weird in general. He was on the verge of tears the other night and wanted to ask the DR if they'd let him talk to his wife. Whatever's going on, it's raising red flags for Paul/Alex and they think maybe he needs to go sooner than later.

Sounds like the insanity of being locked in a small space with the same people for three months is getting to him. People usually break before the halfway point, though. Remember the entire point of the show is to monitor people 24/7 and watch their descent into madness.

I do hope these hamsters go mad soon. It would be a nice change of pace to watch them all kill each other. Starting with DoorMatt not using the Veto on himself and getting evicted for being a moron. Btw, I tried to get "DoorMatt" to go viral on RHAP last night. I almost succeeded! xD

I am watching episode 4 and getting to the end and god damn it. I should have called it for him to win after episode 1.

Pretty apt comparison. The first four episodes of Redemption Island were absolutely fantastic, but aside from one blindside after that it was the most boring and predictable stretch of Survivor ever, with nobody having the testicular fortitude to stage a coup and production having a detrimental twist blocking any opportunity (Redemption Island instead of reward trips? What were they thinking?). While I do not believe Redemption Island to be the worst season of Survivor because of its phenomenal start, it still is a bottom-tier season on the whole because of its lack of casting serious players and instead giving us... Grant Mattos. As well as most of Zapatera.

Similarly, the pre-jury of BB19 has been a mostly entertaining array of drama, but after removing those with the audacity to challenge the veteran dominator, it has left us with a bunch of clueless non-players who blindly follow the veteran's mark (here, the beard as opposed to the Red Sox hat). On top of that, production has wanted Paul's success. Thus, it will be a boring and predictable remainder, and people will reminisce about the badness as opposed to the cannon shot that started it all.

Let us hope that BB20 is not South Pacific, which somehow managed to be even more unwatchable than Redemption Island.

I think the brainlessness here is actually worse than RI because at least Grant/Ashley/Andrea could've beaten Rob at the end. But otherwise I agree this is closer to Caramoan, a lot of good moments and drama on paper but there's no one to root for so it doesn't matter. I guess that makes Jessica the Laura Alexander of this season?

I'd say it's more like Caramoan in that certain players ARE trying to make moves, but they're getting shut down by an obvious veteran winner who has had little to no opposition all season. Plus if Jess/Cody are the Three Amigos, it also works. They got special advantages (idols) that protected them several weeks past their expiration date, but it ultimately didn't matter and they just wasted our time.

Yeah, Mark is indeed praying he or Elena wins HOH so Alex and Paul can be nominated like fans want to see. He's tried working people but has given up because most of them are dumb. He realizes that winning HOH is his ONLY chance at minimal fault of his own. It isn't like Steve's questionable move two years ago to allow a trio go to the final seven intact, which essentially forced him to win one of the next two HOHes. Had he not done so, he would not have won the game. In my mind, having your back already against the wall is way different than putting it there yourself.

Alex would probably go; if Alex wins Veto, the replacement nominee (Christmas) would instead. This is a good thing for Mark because he could argue to the sheeple that Paul survived because he had that many votes on his side - and that many people would use the Veto on him - and that nobody should trust his word about the contradicting F2/F3 deals he has with everyone.

If Mark or Elena does not win the DE HOH, I will stop paying attention to this and watch Australian Survivor 2017 instead.

I'll get to it eventually, when I have more of an opening and more of the season can be binged during that opening. So, probably Labor Day weekend (September 2-4 in the US) would be an ideal time to start. BB19 will be boring by that time since there will only be seven people left (or rather six sheeple and the shepherd). In other casts, the final seven is an explosive time. In this one, it will be all "FRIENDSHIP 4EVER!" Puke.

No idea how much time I'll have this coming weekend (have a lot to tend to) and next weekend I have no opportunity.

it's so good

if it keeps up there is a very good chance i use it as my intro to survivor season for friends i'm trying to get hooked but also it might set the bar too high for consistency

like, casting did a phenomenal job of getting people who aren't just characters but good players who are also characters

Let me be honest: I didn't watch tonight's episode of BB19. I knew what happened on the feeds already and it did not interest me the way prior events did. I WILL be watching BB19 tomorrow night, because DE, but this might be the last straw for me depending on how it crumbles.

With BB, I can read Jokers while at work and watch clips online at home. Can't do either of those with AUS Survivor. It's more of a convenience thing.

I will watch AUS Survivor 2017 at one point or another, but again, I'm pretty busy right now. It took me a while to make any progress on last year's even when a castaway followed me on Twitter and told me to get on it. I enjoyed it a lot, so I know I'll enjoy this year's. But right now, that's too much of a commitment for me, just like watching BB19 episodes has become.

I'm thinking about Survivor history, and I'm wondering, what seasons would you say are required watching in terms of their impact on the franchise as a whole? I don't mean like, which seasons brought back a bunch of characters, I mean which seasons changed the way Survivor IS as a game and as a show? Here's my preliminary list:

I know you won't love it but Africa should be on there because of the swap. Every season expects a swap now. Also, Fiji is the first season to use the idol the way it is used today and kills the car reward. Guatemala probably belongs on there just for the introduction of the idol. If the jury change stays the same you may want to put Game Changers/Koah Rong. GC because it used the new tribal format but Koah Rong because they clearly made it that way to prevent more Micheles from winning.
