This is a lot different than other artist's deaths so far for me I think. I only came to appreciate some of those guys later in life, after they had already made their music really, or at least I wasn't a fan when they were just starting out. This is really different because I grew up with this band, especially since they started hitting their stride as I was in my teenage years and early 20s. It's so sad and unbelievable still.

I'm hating myself for not going to even one of their concerts. Chester is a vocal god and I needed to witness the raw talent in person.

Still in disbelief. I've stuck with LP for the majority of their time together since 2000 and have liked most of their stuff. The last two albums weren't that great, but the first five all had plenty to enjoy. Hell, A Thousand Suns technically only has 8 songs and it's still their third best behind Hybrid and Meteora.

Fun fact, I left Minutes to Midnight in a car my dad drove the next day. This was, what, the 2nd track and first full one on the album?

My parents literally sat me down the next day and asked if I was ok.

Meteora was also probably my first album... but I wasn't an angsty teenager I just thought the songs were catchy. I didn't even really pay attention to the lyrics much... but I listened to that album a billion times

That was...quite an opinion. I can see the argument, maybe, but I don't agree with it. Giving a potential suicidee something to bond with is almost always a good thing. Unless that something is drugs, particularly depressants.

I think that people who hold that sort of opinion tend to think "Oh you're depressed because you listen to depressing songs to make yourself depressed" instead of "Oh, you're listening to that song because you're depressed and it validates your feelings and allows you to cope and express them in a healthy way"

I've tried listening to happy songs when I'm depressed or sad and the feeling is a lot like pouring water on a grease fire.

Same. I just talked about this with my sister and we both started to get really reflective. I luckily didn't battle with depression as a teen, but I loved the band and Hybrid Theory might honestly be my favorite album ever. I'm not sure I can make it through the whole album today.

Jesus, I'm still pretty fucked up over all this. I've listened to their albums every day since the news broke. I feel like I need to like... do something to get these feelings out, yet I couldn't really do a ranking topic since I'm pretty unfamiliar with their stuff post Minutes to Midnight. Ugh. This sucks.

Anyways... Lying From You, Pushing Me Away, Forgotten, Crawling (all of Hybrid Theory, really), Valentine's Day. I can never remember the titles from Reanimation, but there are like 4-5 tracks on that album that make it too.
