I've had dandruff since I was like 16 years old. Since then, I had gotten prescription shampoos from doctors, tried stuff like oil rubs, head and shoulders, Selsen blue, etc... None of it ever worked.
It's over a decade later and I still have crazy dandruff, especially the day after washing my hair. I've tried washing my hair daily, and I've tried washing it only once a week. Latest thing I tried doing was mushing coconut oil into it before taking a shower, which helped ever so slightly, but not enough for me to justify doing it.

Like, I've resigned myself to just this is just how it's gonna be, but shit. Anyone else here have similar experiences?

i had dandruff for awhile in highschool, then it just.. stopped. a couple of things that MAY have helped was drinking more water? (doubt it) or taking warm showers as opposed to hot showers. maybe try a shower cap? idk just throwing stuff out there.

Idk, two weeks seems like a long time to go without washing it. Currently I wash it thoroughly once at the beginning of the week, and then I rinse it with water in the shower two more times the rest of the week. (I get the most dandruff after the thorough washing.)

Actually taking cooler showers is one thing I've never really tried, because I really enjoy hot showers. I doubt it's about drinking enough water since I drink water like crazy, but I actually completely forgot about the whole hot-showers causing dandruff thing... Maybe I should give it a shot.

Nah trust me. I literally own a water cooler because I drink so much water.

I found out I need H&S to keep my dandruff at bay. I stoped using it for like a week a few years back and it came back full force.

I have a dandruff problem and I've found alternating different shampoos helps. I use H&S with mint as my day to day shampoo. Then I use T/Sal every week or two. Clears it up.

Each shampoo and treatment has different active ingredients to treat dandruff. Alternating different stuff for me helps prevent it from building a resistance.

Tonight I'm trying out rinse, no shampoo, with lukewarm water. We'll see how it works.

T/sal aka Neutrogena T gel works fucking magic.

I used a daily dandruff shampoo, then twice a week I use the t/sal, works wonders.

It might not be dandruff. Have you or your doctor considered that it might be mild psoriasis? I've got pretty severe psoriasis on my scalp, and literally nothing has had any effect whatsoever. I just kind of deal with it. But you might have better luck if it's a mild case.

TBQH it probably is psoriasis. I used to have it as a kid on my elbows and part of my neck, but I outgrew it (or so I thought, lol). Only reason I think it might not be is just because it's not itchy or painful ever, just flakes.

my psoriasis isn't itchy or painful at all. I only get a few flakes, mostly bright red patches on my scalp and behind my ears
looks gross but doesn't hurt at all

No, actually, it's best not to wash EVERY day with shampoo. Overwashing typically dries out your scalp or hair.

Obviously, there are exceptions. If you have very oily skin/scalp, then you're better off shampooing once a day.

But yes, overwashing tends to strip away your natural oils that protect your scalp and hair.

I trimmed my hair short for a few months and just rinsed my hair with hot water. Took a decade of dandruff away and now I just wash it once a week or less

Just out of curiosity, how long did you leave it in for? I've never tried it but when you use coconut oil as a hair mask you're supposed to leave it in for about 30 minutes before you wash it out.

Way less, like 10 minutes.

Though I gotta say, last night before my bath, I rinsed my hair with lukewarm water, and I dunno if it's placebo effect, but I feel like there's a sorta noticeable difference? Gotta try rinsing it again in a few days and double check.
