Seriously now, Mixnine eliminations were devastating. Lots of reversals. Shin went down 21 spots (!). Haeyoung, Jungmin, Sihyeon, etc... all gone, too. Pastaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! ;-;

i'm a few episodes behind so i haven't seen eliminations for either show, but man, has there been a bigger drop on one of these shows than hyangsook going from top 9 to eliminated? what's the votership that benefit points can have that much impact? the top 9 for the girls is pretty volatile, especially compared to the boys.

Oh, so that's why I saw some people well wishing Sujin. That sucks, and yeah well she's kinda the main character for the girls, but I'm going to out-callous you and say that perhaps providence is telling Fave something. Just pull the girls out and debut them. Otherwise Soomin at least will be stuck another year with YG. Or not, since after all the girl group is not even getting made, remember?

lol... okay I'd like to preface my next comment by saying that I really like Jiwon, ever since she joined Berry Good. I mean whatever else you can say she's a hottie so you know I'm not just saying this. She's actually my favorite in that team. But she's gotta be the most pitiful survival contestant ever, or rather they make her look that way. They make Sohye look like a prodigy next to her, seriously.

What was your favorite performance? I've learned we have somewhat different tastes so I bet it wasn't Hush, because that was mine. One of my favorite performances in the show so far in fact, loved it.

Also! I don't know how close you're following so you might already know but if not I'm glad to be the one to tell you that in the rankings I saw Eyedi in like 4th place in votes! Woot!

It's crazy how much everyone was shitting on her in that episode. It was probably made worse because she wasn't there for most of it, but even when she's there in past episodes, she's treated like a burden. With Sohye, they emphasize her improvement, and how her teammates helped her. With Jiwon, they emphasize her mistakes, and how no one seems to like her. Her edit is probably most similar to Kwon Hyunbin's, but there the ribbing was at least affectionate, and he pulled off a reversal by the end, which Jiwon won't have time to do. Regardless, her character is genuinely great. I just went back to those 2 moments and burst out laughing.

"What's Jiwon's position?" "... visual?"

'Hush' was my favourite too, and not just because it has 4 of my top 9 and was produced by Ilhoon. It highlighted everyone really well.

Yeah, it was bordering right on mean. And I mean Hyunbin is a guy. I'm not saying anything, I mean it's just different. There's a similar thing going on with Jungha on The Unit, have you noticed. At least whenever I check. I mean we knew it was going to be like this, of course.

Nah, everyone is incredibly nice to Jungha. From the beginning they emphasized that his lack of skills is fine, because there's more to being an idol. On his latest team he had a broken leg, and the team made sure he didn't feel like a burden, and listened to his ideas a lot. Plus he had Ungjae there for him from day 1. It's like a Sohye situation, but even nicer because it's The Unit. Jiwon never had an Ungjae or Sejeong reaching out to her, at least not on screen. Actually, it was funny when she was pouring her heart out to Rui because it's the closest she ever had to a sympathetic ear, and it was with the Japanese member who probably didn't know what she was saying and just nodded along silently, and who can't leave because it was her room too.

Final eliminations for Mixnine happened. I want Lee Jaejun to barely scrape by all the way to the top 9 now.

Final eliminations for Mixnine happened.

I went ahead and watched the episode raw. Can't bother to wait! Somehow I've ended up more interested in M9 than The Unit. The Unit has a nice flow, too, but I see what you mean about M9 being more exciting, like the performances. Once they muzzled YG the show did get much better. Still messy, really messy, but better. That 'Tear Queen' montage though lol.

There's also the fact that I'm pretty satisfied with M9's results so far. Perhaps because I didn't have too many hopes or expectations going in. If you just take out Hyokyung (nothing against her, just meh) and put in any of a number of girls in instead, preferably Sori I guess, I'd be happy with the top 9. Sujin would also have been fine.

I'm not the biggest Chanmi fan or anything but dang. Too bad about Kim Sihyun also, she's really cute. I never really noticed her before, even on Produce, but she was great on Hush. Now I have to go all the way back and start watching her. See a lot of girls I like didn't make it, Jiwon, Rui, Minju, and yet I'm still fine, that's how satisfied I am. I'm specially happy that Bella made it to the end.

How come you stan ACE on TU but you don't like Byeonkwang lol. Also don't you like Rokhyun? And I see you're not in on the Marco fever either haha.

For TU, which perf did you like best? Mine was of course Sweet, oh I love that team. And if this must be the last time I see Woohee on stage... sigh. Serri also, I'm fine with Always taking first. All the songs were okay really, but Poco A Poco, that's not a bad song and the girls did fine but yeah they should never have done that song. Unnies are too heavy for just Somyi and Lucky to carry. Yoonjo's adorable though haha.

Lee Soomin was my top pick on Produce 101, so it's gratifying that she's been firmly in 2nd the whole time with a narrower gap between her and 1st place than ever (though I still expect Ryujin to take it in the end). On top of that, my second fave Eyedi is in the top 9, though not exactly guaranteed to stay. Seriously, this never happens to me, so yeah, this might be the best top 9 on one of these shows ever. Also, I like Jang Hyokyung! With two eliminations from my top 9 above, I'd probably swap in her and uhhh Lee Hayoung.

Best dancer on the show. I was really hoping the 3rd place benefit points would have saved her. Music Works somehow had both the best dancer and rapper on Mixnine, and I'd be interested to see what they do with them next.

How come you stan ACE on TU but you don't like Byeonkwang lol.

I've turned on him a bit the last few eps, at least in the context of the show. A combination of the inevitability, the YG favouritism, and the mild elitism in his portrayal. I like him otherwise though, and if you asked me to sit down and hash out a top 9, I might have include him, but results are different when you're making snap decisions as quick as possible on a sorter. Same with Sehyoon, who I like but when I'm focusing on the show, he's not been shown much lately so he lost out in the moment

On The Unit, I like a lot of people, but not everyone can make my top 9! I think The Unit has been better at making the case for more people. My Unit G top 9 especially would probably change every time I take the sorter. In contrast, there were at least 2 Mixnine boys who I did not recognize at all even though it's the top 27.

Best performance and song on The Unit was Cosmos even though they SABOTAGED it with those outfits. I don't know how they looked at that song and those members and went with that (not seen the episode yet, only the performances).

After spending some time listening to AOA, BESTie, and Dalshabet (and watching their interviews, and live performances, etc.), I think I've realized why AOA was by far the most popular of those three.

AOA is best at playing the idol. They're always on, just about always confident, basically always professional (at least professional at being pretty and fun), and always ready for the camera. Of course, I'm pretty sure they got their popularity cut in half because of that one scandal they had, but the way they carry themselves is the most idol-ish of the three groups I know well. Also, I'm sure their agency had PLENTY of funds to promote them in every way they wanted.

BESTie had the talent, but they just weren't ready when they debuted and it took them too long to get into their right spot. And then by the time they'd released a couple songs that were showing their maturity and progression as a group, they lost Dahye and Uji lmfao

Dal Shabet... idk, their lives aren't super great and the consistency in their songs isn't very good. They've got some real gems and then some stuff that I think is total garbage. Subin could be idol of all time but her voice isn't as steady as it should be when she's main vocal in her group (otherwise she's amazing though, and in the studio she sounds fantastic). And I'm pretty sure Joker was banned from broadcast when it first came out? Probably never helps when that happens.

Seriously, don't underestimate the power of a nice pair of jeans. Kpop is image, man. At least this part of it is. The reasons why groups succeed or not sadly often don't have that much to do with the members, it's circumstances beyond their control, or just plain luck. If there was some magic formula everyone would just follow it. There's no such thing. There's too many groups, and you have to catch a lucky break. Or several. You're right about the agency though. If the group is managed by an agency with resources, a more prestigious agency with clout and connections, well that gives them more opportunities to catch those breaks, makes it easier to get them.

It's luck, luck for your image. Look at Bestie, or any group, why were they not successful? Actually Bestie has a pretty weird, controversial history.

For sure, don't get me wrong. Everything you said is fine, I might agree with most or all of it, even. Some groups are better than others, and people have their taste so there are trends and markets, and so on, and yeah some groups know what to do better, etc, it's true. I have different rankings of AOA members based on whether we give preference to personality or musical ability, but overall I'd probably say this:

Choa >> Chanmi > Yuna > Mina > Hyejeong >> Seolhyun >>>>>> Jimin

Not a Jimin fan, probably the only member I don't actively really like. Seolhyun's pretty good, but I feel like her personality switches being idol mode and then slightly crazy girl. Then the other 5 are all pretty awesome. I just think Choa's the most talented (at least vocally) plus she's really mature.

Other than those 3 groups I haven't really listened to much. I remember I kinda liked a Cosmic Girls song but I don't remember which one. I know about other groups, just haven't taken the time to listen.
