BESTie was poorly managed, and then basically abandoned after YNB debuted KNK. By the time Uji and Dahye left, the real surprise was that there was a BESTie to leave considering they haven't had a comeback in 2 years. Uji is a top singer and gained some minor hype from appearances on stuff like Immortal Song, and Girl Spirit too. Maybe it wouldn't have amounted to anything, but we'll never know since the company never capitalised on it.

Dal Shabet had nothing but bops for their promotional tracks since at least 'Have Don't Have' imo (Joker is the only one I didn't like much weirdly enough), and you've made me sad all over again that they've disbanded. The controversy with B1A4's fandom was major, and some would say that doomed them. Plus their agency is really small.

I really only like Joker and Someone Like U for their singles, but I also like a number of their side tracks. I think my favorite one from their discography is From Head to Toe off of Naturalness. And then Obsessed from the Joker mini-album is also pretty awesome. Haven't delved into much of their stuff from when they had 7 members to be fair.

Uji is my favorite kpop singer by far. She's fuckin incredible. For example, Choa's got a lot of power and a great range and I love her voice, but then Uji comes in there with the same range, maybe more power, and so much more soul. I hope she keeps doing stuff.

But Jesus Christ, that sounds totally ridiculous. Something that wasn't happening caused fans to take over the website and force Serri to apologize for... not really anything? What the hell lmao. So, I like some of the music and I think it's great that they cater to fans so much, but sometimes the fans really do kinda get me dumbfounded. The expectations placed on these idols are kinda ridiculous. It's like, I see some fans of AOA calling Choa a traitor for leaving the group for her own well-being, and then also because she wants to live a little more normally. And I'm sure there are plenty of other examples besides these two.

It's really just too bad.

Wow that is nuts. This was some time before I even knew Dal Shabet existed, in fact this was around the time I started getting heavy into Kpop, but I'd heard Serri had had an issue where she had to apologize, and when I saw the stage I thought it was of course ridiculous, but I didn't know about ISAC and the site hacking and all that, that is psycho. Me too :( Dal Shabet's end is enough to shed a tear. They were everything I love about Kpop. I also like pretty much everything they did, until the end, everything they did had their charm. Sigh.

I remember you said they have too many members. I said the same thing in the beginning (and I still do), but for fans it actually becomes a positive thing. If you just like one or two members then you'll get interested in the group as a whole, and then you might discover more members to like. It works. Something similar happens with the AKB48 groups in Japan for example. Part of the concept actually is a competition between the members of who will have the most fans, who's the biggest what they call "stan attractor". This happens in every group of course but it becomes more natural in a large group.

Loona will have like 12 members also. Pumpkin mentioned OEC is just a subunit but in my defense all of Loona is subunits right now, and OEC is just the better one. :p

Well, everyone gave you good recommendations in your topic of course, but the older groups we could have dozens of posts full of them, I hope you find not just more groups to like but also at least one new group you really like. That's why I hesitate to recommend you older groups, even though I think you would find some you like with a similar style to those 3 groups. Do listen to SNSD though, I understand there will be more and more Kpop fans who barely know Girls Generation but try not to be one of them.

as much as i hate thrown together tag teams (pretty much every cena tag title reign), i like it when it becomes a long term partnership like rusev day or orton/wyatt (not too long term there, but still). i feel like i'm one of the few who enjoy the bar partnership.

The Unit elims: okay at this point I'm just hoping Woohee can hold on to 9th. Doing a little good old analyzing, I think there's 3 girls that could be called locked in for Unit G: Euijin, Yebin and NcA. Then there's 4 girls who are maybe not 100% but who are most likely in: Semi, Euna, Jiwon and I would add Suji, too. That leaves 2 spots still reasonably contested. There's I think 7 girls who have a chance, some better, like a chance for 8th, some only having a small chance for 9th, but still, if there's something we've learned from these shows it's that surprises can happen: Yang Jiwon, Woohee, Hyunjoo, ZN, Yoonjo, DanA and Somyi.

For the boys, all I know is Jun, Feeldog and Timmy are in. I hope Daewon makes it. Also Rokhyun.

Also, I'm pretty sure this time that Pumpkin likes Ting better than You and I! :p

I would be ecstatic if DanA and Somyi make it, but it's doubtful with the vote split. I think Semmi is pretty much a lock, but I could understand why you didn't include her there since her rise is recent compared to the rest of the top 4 who have been there since the start. Of the current top 9, Yang Jiwon's recent drop is worrying, and one of Suji or Euna could be in trouble depending on how the vote splits for them. ZN and Yoonjo have a shot, but the only one I really see breaking through is Hyunjoo, probably replacing Yang Jiwon.

For the boys, Hojung is on firmer ground than Timoteo at this point, but both are probably going to make it. Not sure after that. I expected Daewon to drop a long time ago, but he never did so I think he'll be fine. For their sake I hope Jeup and/or Rockhyun make it since the current top 9 is sorely lacking in vocals (Geon would be great too, but it's very unlikely). Of the current top 9, I think Hansol and Donghyun would drop out, but I can't decide who'd rise.

As for Ting vs. You and I, I don't know. Neither grabbed me, but the previews were too short to really say.

Hmm, I don't know man, it might all just be taste. If I think about it honestly, I should be more critical of girl groups, too, but I realize because I'm biased it's easier for me to give them a pass. I mean that's just Kpop the way I see it.

That said, there's maybe a certain excitement that's been lost, just speaking for myself, I don't know, going back a few years like say 4 everything was newer still, I remember being more excited when the old girl groups were still in their prime, putting out stuff. Now a generation has passed and you know, it's different. I still enjoy it as much I mean, maybe even more, but yeah, I think it's not as easy to really be wowed now. As for boy groups, they're still pretty uncharted territory for me, but the main thing is I haven't found a group as good as Shinee, and I'm not sure that I'll find it any time soon. Shinee was just freaking good.

personally a problem for me now is the beast-shaped hole i'm trying to fill. i don't have a bias group anymore, and my ultimate bias is in limbo. certainly, a lot of groups from that era have disbanded, but the weird situation with beast for me is that they are actually more active than they've ever been but in a form that is alienating to me, while simulataenously being treated as a group that never existed. i went to look up something in their discography the other day and it still weirds me out that wikipedia takes me to a page for 'highlight', because that's not the same group. the rest of kpop used to be what was happening between beast comebacks. without beast, it's kpop or the void. either i walk away completely, or fill the void by latching onto every rookie group or survival show trainee that comes my way. so far, i'm doing the latter.

I can't pick a gugudan bias, that's why they're one of my fav groups! I'll say my opinion of an idol has never changed so much as with Mina. I mean I've always liked her, but like Produce ep 1, I could have taken her or left her really, like even by the end I would have put Nayoung in instead of her in IOI, I think her unnies just overshadowed her for me. However through Produce, IOI, gugudan, oguogu, every time I see her I love her more and more, I'm happy that I've come to see what her many fans always saw in her, she's awesome. I don't know if I'm such a shallow jerk that's it's mostly the weight loss, but I don't think so, I don't know what or how she does it, she's an excellent idol.

Boy groups - Beast aside, I was always more of a girl group stan, so I'm pretty casual across the board now. I appreciate BTOB's presence in the industry more these days, though I've never gone that deep into their discography. I've realized that I consistently like B1A4's musical output, though I've never followed them on variety shows and the like. Rookie-wise, they're not quite there yet for me, but I'm rooting for Pentagon, because unfortunately, Cube's style is still my style. Kind of getting into N.Flying lately, too.

Girl groups - WJSN if I had to pick just one, or maybe Gugudan now? Also CLC, DIA, Red Velvet, OMG, Dreamcatcher, Sonamoo, Matilda, EXID, and wait, I'm listing too many. I still feel pretty casual though, because these days every group is livestreaming constantly and I don't have the time for it. If only vlive was a thing 7 years ago.

I just listened to some of Subin's solo stuff.

"Hate" is... wow. That song is incredible. Her live vocals are kinda inconsistent and her voice doesn't come off as the strongest, but on the tape she's got ridiculously strong inflections and just takes your breath away really. It's not really a Kpop song, but this is my favorite song I've heard out of Korea, I think. It's just really emotionally charged and I like to hear something like this where you really get to explore what she can do.

I would almost hope Subin herself would not let her musical aspirations fall. Hopefully she signed with this new agency with a clear ability to do acting as well as music (alongside anything else she pleases, I assume).

Seriously. She's too good at it to let that side of her go. And I think I remember seeing in an interview somewhere that one of her biggest goals was to do an album of all her own music. She's done two EPs now, so idk if that fulfills it, but yeah. I would take that as she's not letting herself drop the music side of things.
