Both Onion Knight's USB are arguably the best boostagas in the game, and his legend materia starts him off with instant cast.

Sage is bit better since Onion Knight is a much better mage than physical DPS but ninja makes him one of the best batteries. I got 150 myhtril ready for this banner.

In fairness it may just because when I got hardcore into things I am usually pretty top level so not even being able to complete most nightmare dungeons makes me feel like a noob. Maybe I am not so casual anymore since I've been playing for awhile now.

I think I've decided to skip this one. I don't actually want anything on the banner other than the 4 OK relics and they'll almost definitely be back in the 3rd anniversary. Makes more sense to save my mythril for a banner with higher odds of getting something I like.

Why is the OK banner so hyped? I have close to 200 mythril what am i looking for here?

Onion Knight has two USBs, Ninja and Sage.
Ninja: party Haste, party Atk +50, party Crit=50, personal Atk+30, personal boost to casting speed (of any action)
Sage: party Haste, party Mag/Mnd/Res +30, party short-charge spells 3, personal Mag+30, personal Black Magic +15
Party buffs last 25s, personal buffs (being EX Modes) only 15s

So OK Ninja gets Shout plus a party crit boost, that also increases his own damage and action speed. (The speed bonus gets better as you keep taking actions, but that's reset if the EX Mode wears off; since the USB itself doesn't deal any damage, I'm uncertain whether recasting it "early" would be worth it.) OK Sage is a slightly better Edward USB that also gives OK himself two extra layers of damage boosts. So, either one is pretty cool, although there's not much reason to cast both in the same battle.

The case against? Well, Ramza BSB2 is maybe better than OK Ninja - no party crit boost and no personal Atk/spd buff, but two good commands plus En-Holy for Ramza, and Burst Mode's +20% stats, too. Edward USB isn't as good as OK USB, because Edward supplies Quick Cast 2 instead of Quick Cast 3... but Edward can use Allegro con Moto, so he doesn't _need_ a SB gauge to give the party QC3. (And, weirdly, QC2 and QC3 actually stack with each other.) The fact that OK can also use skills like Meltdown, Dervish, or Curada only matters if you're going to take advantage of it; if all OK will do is Wrath/Entrust, these may not be worth your mythril.

Onion Knight in ninja mode is actually a better battery using Lifesiphon than wrath since his increasing quickcasts will make him build meter faster, or he can juggle damage and battery by using 6*skills or weakness ninja attacks.

His versatility is what makes him god tier through, damage, battery, healer, breaks ect. He can find a spot in almost any team.

OK is crit rate +50% (like Eiko BSB)
Zack is crit damage +50% (like Ramza chant)

OK wouldn't affect Cloud USB at all, for example, since that already gives 100% crit rate

It's the same as Zell's BSB, it increases critical hit rate, Zack's is like Ramza's Chant where it increases damage. It does overwrite Cloud USB's 100% crit rate through so it's better to pair Ramza with Cloud. OK goes better with chases like Tidus or Bartz.

if you can only use one, you'd use crit rate. crit damage is almost useless without some form of crit rate buff. both is ideal because each one enhances the effectiveness of the other. best case stacking crit damage with Orlandu or Cloud USB.

crits normally do 50% more damage, so crit damage buff brings it up to double. nothing gives +100% crit damage.

This is correct, but I think he was saying OK usb's crit buff wont improve clouds damage at all, whereas Zack or ramza would.

are you trying solo or multiplayer? if you do it solo, then Cagnazzo doesn't show up. you have Lightning USB right? shouldn't be a problem with that.

Oh I was trying to solo because I couldn't find a multiplayer team (when I did multi a week ago we got crushed on Cagnazzo).

In that case I guess I'll adjust my strategy to just burst him down as fast as possible. Even with confuse resist he was confusing at least some of my team and then killing people off with the million tentacle slap.

Alright that actually wasn't that hard, thanks for the tip. Apocalypse Tentacle is pretty savage but this time we survived it and then just killed him. Before I gave up because thought I still had a harder fight left after Ultros.

Wrecked Sealion with Sabin Locke Ward Minwu Gordon. Unfortunately it was 31s. I feel like 30s is possible if I swap Ward with Sazh and use the Machinist 6 shot ability after using Chocobo Chick. Ward was kinda worthless after dropping the promise

Strange that my Fire Team is already more effective than my Water one despite only really having two relics for it. Chains, man. Although even if I had Tidus's chain having the chain and the chase on separate characters is a big deal too. When Rikku gets the Chain + Shout Soulbreak I'll be ready.

Swapped Ward with Sazh and swapped Liquid Flame materia with Mombomb and was able to beat him in 28s. Used the starting soul break gauge on Sazh + Minwu for a ghetto shout with Seal of Heaven + Chocobo Chick, then had Gordon wrath up to Kashuan's Resolve for Atk/Mag +30% and unleashed flaming hell on him with Sabin + Locke, with Sazh and Gordon doing chip damage to increase the chain multiplier.

I think that should be pretty reliable as I overkilled him a bit in the last hit meaning I should peak a bit higher than that. Maybe I'll build a Flame Shot so Locke can actually do something useful after hitting his chain. But ideally I kinda wanna wait for the Flame Thief Skill coming soon since he's better at that. It's nice because Ice was one of the orb types I was tending to use a ton of.

Weird to use a support character without any support skills. At some point Machinist became a worthwhile skillset it seems.

I got my first sub30 on Shadow Dragon today thanks to the Ninja USB =D



Takes a bit of luck with a doublecast from Marche and some crits from Firion's Ultra but I can DPS past the first black fang. After that it's battery up Firion's OSB which does 99999 damage. Just need the assault saber from Orlandeau's event and maybe I can start sub30ing Hydra (and I need the lightning orbs bad as well.)

Well the damage spread is something like

71% Sabin
21% Locke
8% Everyone Else combined

So Ward's lack of damage contribution (I basically just had him using Full Charge constantly) wasn't too terrible since he doesn't really need to do much. But Sazh adds maybe 50k damage over Ward from that slot and runs the chain up which beats a blank.

The one benefit ward provided is it was easy to flip Locke's Legend Materia that gives him increased charge speed + attack since he gives guts but yeah.

as expected, Mist Dragon went down pretty easily. my quickest time yet at 33S. used Seph, Kuja, Raines, Ramza, Eiko. i even took a counter while it was in mist form. i should be able to sub-30 this somehow. maybe with Seph trance, or if i could fit Leon in there somewhere (since i have his USB, the others were just using BSBs).

I'm kinda getting impatient for 4* Magicite and the drop to 20 stamina. I kinda want to try to beat some of my magicite times but 60 stamina is such a big commitment. I just run one per day right now to keep the keystones from being wasted.

aaaand all magicites beaten. shadow dragon... might have been harder than hydra because of that damn unpreventable instant death. i was doing much better DPS on shadow dragon than hydra, but it also took like a dozen tries before i found the path to victory. Yuna USB was the key to being able to clear it for me. i just waited until 2 people died, then used it, set up wall/proshellga, Ramza USB+shout, and fired away with Agrias saint cross+OSB, PCecil guardbringer+BSB1, and of course god Raines. got like a 50s clear despite doing almost nothing in the first 20s.

Yeah, Shadow Dragon is definitely the worst of the bunch. Personally I didn't think Hydra was that bad, Fenrir and Golem were much worse in my book. But everyone has trouble with Shadow Dragon at first.

Ultimately I found it was easier not trying to revive and just planning around losing one specific character. But then, I don't have Yuna's USB.

Went through the whole Locke event today, as I'm catching up on events (doing all the rematch dungeons tomorrow). I'm glad they're actually trying to buff the jump start dungeons now, taking away Ultima Weapon's fire weakness and buffing his stats. Was still easy, but actually had to plan a tad.

It's gonna be a slow couple of weeks as well, so far just seems like that lame dressed to the nines event is next week (complete filler event, if they had nothing to put then at least give us the Meia event, we haven't had a new character since I think FFTA? We are getting 3 new characters for FF14 at least) I guess it's supposed to be slow so people can do the new realm dungeons but since we have foresight towards a reward update in March people are holding off on that.

I just wish the Orlandeau event was here already so I can get Assault Saber for Marche, so I guess just torment farm on FFT for Holy and Earth orbs for now.

And holy moely!



I finally got that damn Excalibur! A white whale finally down! Granted it is almost a year old and his USB is coming but it's still pretty damn good! Maybe sub30ing Bismark isn't such a pipe dream after all!

And that's even with a bunch of crits from Onion Knight's USB on Thunder God. I fucking hate this whale and all of his constant aoes, huge HP and being stupid fast. I'd like to use Onion Knight as a second battery but I need him to have curaga and Rosa is using wrath and shellga, which I need to save for the Savage Beach Breach spam when Bismarck is low on HP. Even through he doesn't have any chases on Thundering Quadstrike Bartz is the closest I got because of his quickcast from his USB and doublecasts, also tried Marche for quickcasts for Orlandeau but the holy/earth resistance is too much of a monkey wrench (if only there was an electric Knight skill) My other options are Lightning with her OSB and Legend Materia relic (not even 4* dived yet) Aranea with her osb (probably not gonna cut it even with a Legend dive) Prompto but he's a support character on a boss that 80% break resistant, Kain with BSB or Lightning mages like Desch and Malak's BSBs (yeah right...)

got my first sub-30, liquid flame. just using Squall instead of Bartz made a huge difference. Bartz OSB doesn't anywhere near off-set Squall 5* dive. the thing is practically dead by the time Squall gets a bar anyway. Tidus LM2 and Celes lv99 RM for Squall also helped a bit. i did it 3 times and got around 25s each time so it seems pretty consistent. could do even better if i dived Shelke, with Larsa ending up being a pure battery and never needing his BSB.

not sure if there's any others i could do sub-30. Mist Dragon or Fenrir are decently likely with what i have. or maybe Sealion/Golem if i go nuts with ninja hones and dives.
