today is the last day I have to go to my parent's house. so it's pretty lame that the snow couldn't wait one more day. at least I won't slip on ice though. almost did that a few times yesterday

no. never had a license in my life. I have practiced driving but mostly in parking lots or residential neighborhoods. I can't afford a car, and I worry I would be too stressed by the road. I've seen some scary stuff while being a passenger

Back in my day, we had to walk 15 miles, barefoot, uphill, during a blizzard, to get to school.

And we LIKED it!

I don't know the exact distance. I know it's at least a mile. and I have to walk it both ways.

while I was in the house a snowplow went down the main road I had to walk and covered the sidewalk for a long stretch with a mountain of dirty show and ice chunks. I had to choose to either walk in the road, or go further up the side of the sidewalk and tread through a super thick snowmound

what state do you live in?
Have you ever had to walk a mile or more in deep snow?

it was pretty tiring. and cold. I wanted to stop and take a breather a few times but I was worried I wasn't gonna make the bus. the other people on the bus were also shit talking the weather too. This is the most snow I have had to deal with outside of a ski resort in like.....a very long time. maybe since the last time I was in Alaska in the winter, which was winter of 86/87

it's mostly about the snow today. I did it yesterday too, and it wasn't that bad then. what made it so different today was the snow. I was willing to do this, and I did it to help my family. so you don't need to keep making so many snide comments.

this is the worst it's been. plus it's also the first time I had to do this trek across town. it's snowed before but it seems worse today. but also, I never had to walk more than less than a mile until now.

I'm newly arrived to Alaska. only been up here since june.

Says a license is NOT required. There is a registration fee of $10 every 2 years. Even though that's from 2002/3, I can't find anything that says that's changed.

You shouldn't. Teens and DUI convicts use them to get around in the winter here.

So easy kids do it

I'm kinda glad it's anchorage. from what I hear, this is the "mild" part of alaska. going further north it only gets worse. I dont think I would like living north of anchorage. When I was a tiny little thing, we lived on Fort Richardson which is an army base next to Anchorage. we moved away when I was 6. I think I have some vague memories of fairbanks and other places up north. but I don't remember if it was in the winter or not. I do know we went to a town called North Pole. it's a christmas year round tourist spot. I don't really remember it. but there is an old home video of me listing to Santa tell a story with other kids

Because it's not THAT extreme. I'm in Anchorage not out in the wilderness near Barrow or something

And I don't usually walk this much

I think people would look at me funny if I got on the bus with skiis or snow shoes on. I was wearing snow boots. I saw some in tennis shoes though. That was odd to me
And while waiting for the bus I swear I saw a guy that looked he was in shorts way down the street running across the road dodging cars.
