Trump says it will help American manufacturers of solar panels, but foreign imports will STILL be cheaper with the tariffs. All this does is drive up the cost of solar energy, decrease its economic viability, and keep America dependent on non-renewable energy--and that is exactly what Trump wants.

Because people don't want to pay 100x more for a solar panel. Low-cost labor in production is good because it means greater adoption of solar and more jobs in the installation and maintenance industry here at home.

This. EPA regulations make solar panel manufacturing insanely expensive. Making them is insanely damaging to the environment, which is why they're only made in countries with next to no environmental policies whatsoever.

It is impossible to tell anymore. People will religiously defend trump for anything. Doesn't matter if he is costing american jobs with pointless tariffs, threatening nuclear holocaust via twitter, allowing mines to dump waste in rivers, questioning why we let black people into the country, or cheating on his wife with a porn star. He can do no wrong.

And why are you shitting on only Trump when the EU has responded the exact same way to the exact same problem?

Solar Panel Manufacturers say this will allow them to compete and net more manufacturing jobs.

Solar Panel installers say it will increase price and less people will buy solar panels making less jobs for installers.

Why you are only presenting one side of the argument as fact is interesting.

That said, the people who are buying solar panels usually are not pinching pennies nor doing it for the cheapness of it. Thus, I suspect the tariffs will have a negligible effect on installer jobs.

It is not like this was not researched before Trump was advised to institute the tariff after finding out there was unfair practices in China propping up the market.

...lolwut? The whole point of tariffs is to reduce foreign competition, so even if it's "still" cheaper, people are more likely to buy American. More importantly, it puts money in the hands of American companies who are more likely to actually innovate.

This, tbh. Plus a lot of states are starting to hit back on solar anyway, making changes to direct and indirect subsidies due to the economic issues.

All "Made in China" does for outsourced manufacturing is increase profit margins for domestic businesses. Allowing the Chinese to directly dump their cheap goods here with no way to mitigate it creates a glut that threatens all non-Chinese producers and jobs (unless your whole business is simply installing panels). If you can't grasp that distinction, then you have no further business addressing this topic.
