It was bad enough when I did it with 493, though to make my life easier I split it by generation. I still didn't last >_>

That is far too short notice. Ideally, I'd like to have more time to possibly discuss with other users as to what Pokemon they might want to save using their first set of saves, to avoid any potential conflicts during the first several rounds.

I suggest you save yourself the trouble unless you'd rather run a bot.

Don't worry about the potential length of the contest since there was an earlier topic near the end of last year where tennisboy said that the early rounds will have at least 20 eliminations (or more) to start off the contest. We'll be cutting through the crap very quickly. The previous Save My Pokemon ran for about 7 months, but tennisboy said that he was aiming for a 4 month contest to put it in line with contests like SMFFFC and Disney.

I'll save Lickilicky with my first save and then when it gets to 2 and 3 saves Poka and Stifled will be saving him. That means you won't need to save him until it gets to 4 saves!

Save trading will be mostly irrelevant early in the contest since the early rounds will only require one save to avoid being eliminated. The only save trading you'll see early in the contest are the so-called NR saves where someone will save one of your Pokemon near the end of the round, in exchange for saving one of their Pokemon in the next round.

We probably won't make the switch to 2 saves being required to avoid elimination until maybe the top 200 (out of 807 Pokemon).

Oh, that's really sad to hear. You were one of a few users who generally doesn't like the Gen 1 domination in Pokemon contests and your decision to not participate means we've lost a valuable member of the anti-Gen 1 Crew. You could have used your participation in the contest to save non-Gen 1 Pokemon (with very few exceptions like Jolteon).

I remember you didn't participate in DSRage's Pokemon of the Year contests since those were nomination based contests and only about one third of the total Pokemon field actually made it into the contest. So many of your favorites weren't in those contests and even those that made it in often didn't do very well because of the contest format. Save My Pokemon is much different because every single Pokemon will be eligible for the contest and save trading enables almost any Pokemon to make a deep run in the contest.

4 months for a contest is similar in length to contests such as SMFFFC and Disney, and I know you participated in the last SMFFFC contest. At least it's not 7 months like the last Save My Pokemon. That was a very grueling affair and I know there were some people who were burned out after spending 7 months on a contest.

No, I didn't participate in the last SMFFFC and I only participated in the last few weeks of Disney because I owed Dug.

Scyther definitely won. i remember because that's what i was pushing (well, Scizor, too).

i think the only hope of one of my favorites winning next time would be... Ninetales? or if we really want to stretch plausibility, Hawlucha or Mimikyu.

Nearly all of my favorites are niche so it really sucks for me yeah. If I go all in on something, when it dies I'll literally be left with only Pokemon I either don't care about, or hate so then I'm left just being like... yay

I think the only thing I could go for this year if I participated would maybe going all in on Lycanroc? But since he's relatively popular I wouldn't be happy with anything but a win and Zigzagoon getting 2nd was the closest I'll ever get to a win in terms of Save Mys.

So at the end of the day, is it worth the time and effort to push Lycanroc when he'd have like a 1% chance of winning?

The answer is no.

99% of the time I waste my time and 1% I actually win a Save My for the first time in my 10+ years participating in them.

Oh yeah for sure. I did the same thing in Disney when I checked in at the top 30 and there was exactly 1 character I liked still alive.

Despite Charizard being perhaps the most overrated Pokemon ever, it's never been able to win a major Pokemon contest on this board. In the last Save My Pokemon, Charizard went out at 31th place overall which is earlier than I would have expected from it.

Since I don't plan to participate in save trading, I'll always have someone to support. Whenever I lose some of my favorites, I have plenty of fallback options that I can go to instead.

Figured a 150 pokemon per save my would be enough. Top 50 move on to big combined pool. 800+ at once...just sounds honestly miserable. Take you 10 minutes to post the topic fully. Tallies would be a nightmare.

Having all 807 Pokemon isn't a problem if we have an aggressive elimination schedule to cut through the crap really fast. There will be at least 20 eliminations per round in the early rounds.

I think it's necessary to have every single Pokemon in this contest to avoid upsetting users who are disappointed that their favorite Pokemon isn't in this contest. Unlike with other Save My contests such as SMFFFC or Disney, Pokemon is rather unique in the fact that every single Pokemon will at least one person within the worldwide Pokemon fanbase that loves it. Just look at Lickilicky, which is one of the most hated Pokemon yet it has at least one person who loves it.

So far, I've counted a total of 21 unique users who have posted in this topic. This excludes red's alt, plus an alt of Bane. I also excluded Ermine as he was on record saying he wouldn't be participating. I expect most of these 21 users to participate in the contest, but there should be more users who are planning to get on board with the contest on the first day even though they haven't posted in this topic.

Although the pre-contest topic can serve as a place to discuss your plans on what you plan to save (to avoid potential conflicts with other users), this topic can also provide a useful estimate on early contest participation which is important if we want those early rounds to run for about 4-5 hours.
