We already know that different races are biologicaly different to an extent. Africans are faster and whites have more dense muscle tissue.

Different races even have different levels of susceptibility to different diseases and risks of naturally accruing those diseases.

the problem is we live in a world where social media exists. if a group of people even want to do this kind of research they need grants, so if they go against the masses they become ostracized (look at people who have lost jobs, families, etc for words on one matter on twitter) if they do anything that a majority of people speak out about.

likewise, in terms of corruption, they are people that can be given grants and perhaps an under the table bonus for making sure research is displayed in a certain light. To be honest, depending on the amount of money i'd probably sacrifice some ethics for a way to travel for a few months at a time.

There's nothing original about this "research", except that it's applied to "HISP". I remember more original Science projects back in the 1st grade. One example, a little girl measured the bubble output of various laundry detergents.

Well, I mean, IQ definitely covaries with race, but the result is much more complicated than "one race is less likely to be intelligent than another race", but actually providing a proper in depth argument to reach a fully fleshed out conclusion regarding this topic is far outside the realm of a HS student.

In the department where I do my studies, researchers need to take animal safety training, have their experiments with mice evaluated by ethics committees. Others have to go through complicated procedures to randomize and hide the identity of tissue samples they receive. Similar things happen in the social science.

But when a high school student that doesn't go through the same scrutiny on a topic that is highly volatile and can be predicted to lead to discrimination issues their is project pulled? Wow that was unexpected. Cue the outrage.

These are both fair points. But it's still something that seems to happen universally on this subject, and it just reminds me of back in the days when inconvenient science was shut down, silenced, or actively punished. Data in itself is not good or bad, only what you do with it.

This is high school level textbook looking at onion cells under the microscope or mixing acids and bases together garbage. Data is highly sensitive especially in the social and life sciences.

If the studies were set out to rectify the problem, then I'd say patience. There was a poster on here who was a Grad assistant and saw the same discrepancy in a survey he did among the classes he taught. And it boiled down to study habits and access to study groups. Once the information of what top students did to achieve their grades flowed to the other classmates, the scores started to even out.

In this case, the kid who did this science project is a known racist among his ranks.

If you want to run as fast as Usain Bolt (he's from Jamaica), eat Green bananas, cassava, and other ground provisions. Cassava in particular is a natural steroid. What you eat is a big part in your training, so don't try to hide behind genetics for any shortcomings.

Some of those outraged by the racially charged project say it points to a larger problem: the lack of ethnic diversity in the schools elite HISP program.

The project that started the controversy was titled Race and IQ. It raised the hypothesis: If the average IQs of blacks, Southeast Asians, and Hispanics are lower than the average IQs of non-Hispanic whites and Northeast Asians, then the racial disproportionality in (HISP) is justified.

The HISP program is designed to promote cultural awareness and sensitivity. Often, it includes alternative viewpoints on history. For example, one HISP student said that while learning about Christopher Columbus, students also learned about the Indian genocide and the perspective of Native Americans on white settlers.

The program currently has 508 students enrolled, including 12 African American students, 80 Hispanic students and 104 who are Asian, according to data provided by the district.

Weve clearly not progressed as much as the students want to think we have, said one freshman in HISP. Its just kind of shocking to think someone could enter into that program knowing that is what we are learning about and being so closed-minded.

The idea of race being tied to intelligence has a long and controversial history and is considered fringe. It is associated with other ideas including eugenics often euphemistically referred to as human biodiversity in recent years that attempt to tie racial superiority to science.

Nothing says rigorous science like citing a book from 1905.

Now, having read the original source here, I think Fox's story omits some relevant details that help to form opinions on this kid's project.
