No, but this is a good example of where the news is doing itself a disservice but saying something sort of untrue to hype up something that is bad enough on its own. They could have said "Trump budget cutting funding to CPB" and that would be 100% true, 100% bad, and leave no room for real debate. Instead, they half-lied by assuming that CPB cuts would lead to PBS cuts so they could specifically reference PBS to make it look worse. There's no reason to make shit up in this case.

I'll be honest, a little bit of both. You're completely correct in that elimination of CPB would eliminate federal funding for PBS. Choosing to fight that specific point was stupid on my part. My core point, which was poorly structured however, that highlighting PBS over CPB because it looks worse when PBS would survive the cuts is still a case of warping the truth, which is really the part I took issue with. I would assume most people think PBS is fully government funded and so "eliminating funding = no more PBS" which is objectively untrue.

EDIT: And since I should probably reiterate this as others are jumping in on the convo, I fully support government funding of the CPB, and agree that removing it is objectively bad for the country.

They were talking about doing this for the last eight fucking years. The overall funding amount for PBS and NPR amounts to less than a thousandth of a percent of their annual budget. The amount of savings in the grand scheme of things is extremely negligible. This is a punitive measure - nothing more.
