I loved No Mans Sky from the start. I wont deny it had and still has a lot of flaws, but the ambience and the soundtrack combined with random generation was just the perfect combo for me. The updates have improved the game a great deal since launch by the way.

Valkyria Chronicles is one of the most overrated games ever.

Only the two mainline KH games are good. 358/2 Days is the only other one that comes close to being enjoyable.

Xenoblade, while good, was the worst of the three Operation Rainfall games.

I'm sure I've got more but those are the ones that always come to mind immediately.

I definitely agree with this. Wouldn't put it quite at the top tier for the series but it's a great game, with some outstanding stage design and a really fun crop of weapons.

I also didn't care for Xenoblade at all. Don't really get the hype for that one unless you care way, way more about exploration than I do.

My own personal one is that I often really love the 2 games that are sometimes seen as black sheep: Mario, Zelda... Ace Attorney? (B8 seems to like it less than the other two OT games anyway.) Not Final Fantasy or Devil May Cry though.

I hated Ocarina of Time. I literally fell asleep while playing it because of how bored I was. For comparison, Xenosaga is the only other game that has done that to me. Neither of those are the worst game I've ever played, however. That dubious honor goes to Escort Mission: The Game (Ico). I'd rather play ET or Superman 64 than Ico, honestly. At least I can laugh at those.

Pyre should have been indie game of the year in 2017.
Kingdom Hearts is a terrible series besides the first game, which is merely OK.
Fire Emblem Awakening both saved the franchises survival and ruined its legacy.
Persona is a great series but its waifu selection is unimpressive.
Divekick is a real (if totally rudimentary) fighting game.
GTA4 is a good game with a good story.

EDIT: The Last of Us is horribly overrated.

FFXIII and its series may well be the best of Final Fantasy.

The Punisher (2005) is one of the greatest action games ever, as well as one of the most comic-accurate adaptations right up there with the Batman: Arkham series.

Assassin's Creed IV has more compelling gameplay and characters then II did, and also does more to shake-up the formula and make things better than II did for the original.

The modern Silent Hill games (Homecoming and Downpour namely) are good games that still pack a lot of scares and good narratives even if they don't live up to the original trilogy.

Final Fantasy X-2 is a lot of fun and I like that it doesn't take itself as seriously as FFX, I think it gives the cast some expanded personality and growth.

Nostalgic opinions of old games has more to do with remembering flaws as a positive rather than a negative, leading to a skewed opinion.

And too many people are incapable of separating their opinion from fact. When you think about it, back in the day, magazines only had so much room to cover things, and they usually preferred to cover games that would sell well, meaning shovelware didn't receive any focus.
Nowadays, all games can receive coverage equally because the internet doesn't run out of "magazine space", so people are actually getting to see more of the games that are bad now.

This is what has created the phenomenon that leads people to believe that new games are strictly inferior to older games, when quality has been steadily increasing overall, albeit with upswings, downswings, and snags here and there (like the recent "Okay, that's enough of that" debacle with overpriced DLC for an overpriced game that even led to Disney cracking down on EA).

The market will change as things like that happen.

But for what it's worth, the market has *always* emphasized graphics over gameplay, even back in the days before the NES - it's the easiest thing to demonstrate that your console is superior to the others over. I honestly wish this wasn't the case because graphics are honestly one of the last things you should value in a game - graphical *style* is honestly more important, and it's why some games age better than others.

- The old Tomb Raider games are terrible.

- Slice of Life in Visual Novels and basically any media sucks ***
- FPS is the laziest and most cash grab genre in gaming. Innovation be damned. The casuals are gonna buy our redundant **** anyway.

Journey is nothing special. I mean it looks nice, but I dont even consider it a game.

Not sure if this is unpopular, but walking simulator is easily the worst genre of gaming. None of the ones Ive played have been amazing and theyre just way too short with virtually nothing whatsoever to do. The fact there are so many and so many of them are considered good is baffling to me.
