I mean that it's far enough removed from standard ramen that it's essentially something else. Like ramen is supposed to be cheap. That's why it's popular. When you add relatively expensive ingredients, you take away the reason why ramen is so popular.

Your standard for ramen is the wrong standard.

Yes, but I HATE it when people mix that shit up like egg drop soup. That's gross

It should be cracked into the broth/noodles cooking during the last 3 (or 2 and half if you like your eggs soft) minutes and poached in the broth if you're lazy

if you're not lazy? do them beforehand and make the marinated kind of ramen eggs like it's done for real

I only ever eat ramen with two eggs. I feel bad when eating a meal that contains no proteins.

Also, eggs aren't an expensive or complicated ingredient. Just crack them into the pot of boiling water.

Same for green onions, take some scissors and snip them into the bowl.

And while you're waiting for the water to boil, just slice some chicken and put it in a pan instead of sitting around for 10 minutes. I'm not vegetarian, but fried tofu is good in ramen too.

No, I usually leave the egg for Japanese soup or egg drop. With ramen I usually just cook it with the packets or sriracha instead. I have long moved past the $.33 ramen bricks though, I usually get the $1 or $2 stuff.

The whole point of ramen is being cheap and easy. If you're going to make it more complicated and more expensive, why are you eating ramen to begin with? Why not just make a real meal?

Ramen cost and quality varies quite a bit. I don't want to assume so what is the best/most expensive ramen have you had? My coworker doesn't like ramen but his only experience with ramen is the cheap instant $1 type and not the ones freshly made at an actual ramen restaurant. When it comes to the restaurants though, I believe most make the broth from scratch but the noodles might vary from freshly made noodles to the instant type.

So you boil the water and then pour it over the noodles like cup noodles? I mean you can, but you might as well microwave it at that point. I cook my Ramyeon in a pot. Broth boiling with the other ingredients.

I'm all for electric kettles. I'm not for your way of cooking ramyeon unless it's a cup noodle.

You need to stop taking expressions so literally. When someone says something like "McDonald's isn't food," they (usually) do not literally believe McDonald's to be some other mysterious non-food entity. They know McDonald's is food, they just believe it to be so distanced from what they believe to be true food that it feels like something completely different.

The idea of an actual restaurant specializing in ramen is hilarious. If you have a more mature sense of humor than me, maybe it's not, but don't play dumb, you get the idea behind the joke, even if you don't believe it's a good joke. It's like the idea of a restaurant specializing in peanut butter and jelly. Those actually exist, too, and those are just as hilarious XD

The idea of taking something like peanut butter and jelly, or ramen, and turning it into a gourmet meal is just funny. Or maybe not funny if you're above such juvenile humor, or if you think ramen is "serious business" for some reason.

I dont think thats what hes saying. I do understand whats he trying to say. I can understand both sides of the argument. I just think ramen is ramen. But I do know what hes trying to say. I cant understand how anyone wouldnt, even if you dont agree. But I will also say this topic either sounds like it was bait or written poorly. The reasons I say this is because you never specified actually ramen or the cheaper stuff you can get here. Also, if egg is as common as most people are making it sound, I probably wouldve asked who didnt. There were probably a few other reasons. And I could be wrong. But thats what it seems like. Like this topic was used to make people argue about original ramen and the cheap stuff we have here...

I kinda grasp what Golden Road is trying to say here as well. I've read an article before about fine dining Chinese food and the author mentioned it being near impossible to have such a restaurant in a neighborhood flooded with other Chinese restaurants. It didn't matter if said restaurant used the best ingredients and whatnot, folks are going to scoff at paying more than $10-15 for a plate of fried rice.

I briefly talked about the article with other Chinese friends and it was brought up that it really depends on who the cliente are naturally. Opening up said restaurant in Beverly Hills for example would probably succeed more so than a Chinese community.

While watching Netflix Chef series one of the episode was of Enrique Olvera and his restaurant Pujol in Mexico City that offered fine dining Mexican food. Before starting up his restaurant, he mentioned how when most people think of fine dining they think of French or Italian whereas with Mexican most think of cheap food. So it was a struggle for him to offer Mexican food in a fine dining environment.

From this perspective, I can kinda see how Golden Road cannot/refuse to accept ramen as anything but a cheap quick-n-easy meal. I don't doubt there are high end fried rice dishes out there but having been raised eating it throughout my childhood life and even now as an adult, paying the price for the high end version of it would be tough for me to swallow.
