I know that you wouldn't know this, since you dont work and likely never will, but employers use modern payment methods so I doubt you'll ever see them.

They can still be used to pay for stuff, but in the majority of cases they're worth quite a bit more than face value to collectors, so it'd be pretty stupid to use them as cash.

I mean you could, but have you ever tried to pay for things with dollar coins or half dollar coins or 2 dollar bills? It is not uncommon for young cashiers to think they are counterfeits, or are worth different amounts than they are. One had a mcdonald's cashier a few susan b anthony coins and he thought they were quarters. Had to get a manager involved for him to take them.

We got a couple newer 2 dollar bills at McDonalds as change once. The cashier asked me if it was okay first. Last time I went to the post office I got a gold dollar coin for change instead of a quarter. The guy just wasnt paying attention with that one. Didnt notice until I got home.

They would rip it up. There is a famous story of this Walmart cashier that ripped up a 100 dollar bill in from of the customer because she thought it was fake, even though you aren't supposed to do that even if they ARE fake

you *could* but there is no law saying a private business must take any denomination of us currency.

So if you want to pay for something with thousands of pennies, a business can tell you no. Similar to hundred dollar bills, which a lot of places dont take.

However I would take all these notes at face value and rake in the $$$ at auction so hell yeah i'd do it.

And then go to jail!

The $100,000 bills were only ever used for internal government transactions between the Treasury and the Federal Reserve Banks and were never legally available to the public.

I always asked first until I recognized the people spending the money. Rarely do I feel people will spend it on accident. It was typically a banker or a grandparent who would use dollar coins or two dollar bills, and usually quite a few at a time.

When did you guys get rid of the $1000 bill? The Canadian $1000 bill was removed in the early 2000s.

The 40's
I would think higher denominations would be more important now then ever though.

We got rid of them because they were literally being horded and used exclusively by large criminal organizations.

A business is only legally required to take them if you owe a debt. They can deny currency for transactions.
