Outside of obvious exceptions like Hunger Games and the other young adult dystopias.

But... yeah. Its so fucking simple and the basic moral of it outside of FACISM is television is bad.

And it looks like the movie is cutting out the latter.

Lets be honest here, Fahrenheit 451 was clearly written because 1984 was such a big hit a few years before.

And 451 (the movie) is continuing the trend by coming out after everyone started talking about 1984 after Trump became president.

Were you around for everyone talking about 1984 in 1984? Fun times.
Pretty good movie, too.

Believe it or not, Reagan was actually more actively hated than Trump, so far anyway, probably because neither election was even close.

Also, 1984 (1984) really is a pretty good movie. John Hurt sold the fuck out of it.

It's just too bad the only bluray release is Region-B, and the only watchable DVD I could find is a region-0 from Korea.

WOw! The ending to this movie was laughably bad and stupid. And the featurette has Micheal B jordan talking up the book like it was some cornerstone of society when it is, and was, just riding on the coattails of other dystopias.

Considering what the author has repeatedly claimed the book was ACTUALLY about, 1984 wouldn't have influenced it in the slightest in terms of themes.

That being said, neither was was the first dystopian future story ever written with a fascist government in control. Brave New World (the other story 1984 always gets compared to) came out nearly 20 years earlier (and that wasn't the first one either).

Just checked and it turns out I already bought it. It's still shrinkwrapped for some reason.
Also I seem to have two versions of Animal Farm and at least three versions of 1984.

The rest of the stupidity of your post aside, Bradbury wrote "Bright Phoenix" -- a short story also based around the premise of book burning -- between 1947 and 1948. 1984 didn't come out until 1949. And, you might not have heard of this, but book burning was a pretty big fucking thing in the 1930s and 1940s >_>

And, you know, it's not like Fahrenheit 451 was a huge cultural phenomenon or anything. We certainly didn't have leftist indy filmmaker release a movie called Fahrenheit 9/11 a little over a decade ago.

So... I've been looking into it, a bit, and I think the first dystopian story may have been the Book of Revelation (circa 81-96 AD), at the very end of the Bible.

Also, is Hitchhiker's Guide "dystopian"? It may well be one of the few comedies in the genre, and certainly seems so to me.

I would think no? It's not really about the society they live in. It's one more insignificant backdrop on the random and meaningless existence they live.

Fahrenheit 451 was just a sequel to The Pedestrian. The world he live in is a watered down version of Brave New World with a light shade of 1984. Although its more so if you live in the UK.
