I am in minute 12 of these interminable reams of names. The listing never ceases. I can't skip them. I can't pause them. I am being forces to sit through the most singularly dull video game moment ever. This is enough for me to rate this game a 5 out of 10.

There was a period of time all Ubisoft games had horrible credits. I think Rayman Origins also had enormous credits, but you might have been able to skip them.

My friend and I played it co-op, they give you control of the characters to mess around with so we stuck it out for 20 minutes to see if there was anything special in it. There wasn't.

I think it's actually not too much longer than AC2 but at least AC2 let you fight Abstergo in the credits. At least a speed-up would totally help.

I enjoyed a lot of the game, although I didn't see a ton of value in the crafting and hunting. It was busy work a lot of the time. I did love building the town, however.

Not really. There were a lot of ideas that felt half-implemented and underutilized, and the enemy AI was absolutely all over the place.

Tight mission design (it was the only worth 100%ing), tree/rock climbing (this is the most sad thing imo), nature in general (seasons), having a real character that isn't just some cool killer, cheesy , small personal stories (homestead, assassin recruits) instead of massive grindy content, actually decent assassination missions (first since AC1), interesting tool-based combat

The biggest thing it was missing was really tall climbs. It was also missing the tomb platforming sections, but a lot of the city and mission design had those fast linear platform sequences built into the levels. Also I just remembered the Desmond platforming sections holy shit those were good. Future ones got rid of all of that. Overall it's still the 2nd best climbing in the series after Brotherhood, and by far the best climbing mechanics/animations.

Connor was a bit of a problem too. Ezio was so charismatic and such a great character, and then Connor just felt like a step down

Good job Haytham was great

Tbh I have played worse games, but it was just such a let-down and when I played it it was a huge mess technically (so many glitches)

Its interesting you say this when I can't help but feel its been incredibly aggravating entirely due to the game's bugginess. I would otherwise agree that I really love the intentional aspects of the missions so far, but it's really been hard to enjoy when I'm restarting way more often than past games not through my own mistakes half the time.

I actually don't get the Connor complaints at all though. I've been really enjoying how he plays off other people.

The historical plot has been both a boon snd detriment to the story.

It's inherently interesting because it leans harder on real stuff than before, but it also removes the protagonist from a real story arc and expanded cast in lieu of cameos. Some of them like Revere and Barret have been fun, but it's like new minor characters show up and disappear constantly (foe obvious reasons).

The sequence with Haytham and the prison were great because it could tell a more interestinf story without worrying about historical figures.

I don't remember too many aggravating bugs, but I do remember restarting missions a lot to get 100% of the side challenges, some of which were really difficult. That's what I liked about it. It had this MGS mastery kinda feel to it. I remember spending 45 minutes on the boat infiltration mission and it was frustrating and glorious and unlike anything in AC.

The key was that there were like... 30 story missions max? And like 15 side missions. Totally reasonable to play over and over, whereas future ACs get tiring halfway through even the first playthrough.

Speaking of the boat infiltration everyone raves about 4 but no one recognizes that 3 literally invented the boat combat and the boat climbing, ontop of tree climbing, ontop of weather and animals, ontop of parkour-style animation. 3 had everything (except a masculinity-porn suave killer character).

3 is where the modern day stuff truly jumped the shark. I was so into finding out more about it, particularly during 2 and Brotherhood, and they just shit the bed completely with the modern day stuff in 3.

The actual gameplay of those levels was good though

It hasn't felt like mgs mastery because it's not intuitive why I'm messing up.

It's not every mission but that boat one I think was pretty bad about it. I can't remember ezio trilogy guards seeing me with their backs turned or outright ignoring dead bodies. And fuck the running past cannonballs!

Once you get in the mindset that a game is buggy and you're mad it's easy to see bugs everywhere.

I did have connor just freeze up after investigating a clue too. But whatever! Hopefully some remaster comes out and it'll be a top AC game like it's meant to be.

I had bugs on lockpicking several times and I had a couple other weird instances, but the other ones were amusing. One involved me climbing into a window a suddenly skyrocketing 200 feet into the air.
