The official timeline of Millennials is being born early 80s - 1995 or so. This guy says otherwise.

What do you think?

Yes, and it's rather hilarious how many of us despise the label.

Though there IS a big divide between people who grew up without internet vs people who never knew life without it even if both are technically millennials imo.

Nope, a millennial didn't experience the 90s at all other than being a baby. A baby is somewhere between 0-3 years old. They have no recollection of the times at all.

It makes no sense to lump in 80s kids with them. Although alot of them also have the same views. Alot of kids of the 80s have conservative views about alot of things because the parents of those times were still traditional parents. Compare that to now, parents are letting kids have sex change operations

As someone that was born in 1986...... I didn't grow up without the internet I just remember the progression from not having it to having dial up to having cable internet between the time I was about 10 and 18.

I don't know why the fuck adults born in the mid to late 80's get so upset about getting called one of them, I'm one myself. What's the big deal? People of all ages are stupid, stop trying to point the finger at another generation and going with the "back in my day" shit.

I was born in 82 and I'd vote no within the current meaning of millenial. That said I was 17 and graduated in 2000 so logically it'd probly be a fair statement.

I definitely ain't gen x either though.

It's not a big deal bit people use millenial to identify specific traits and ideals as much as age range.

I'd say if you can remember the majority if not all of the 90s then you aren't really a millennial. I'd say more of born early 90s would be a millennial.

Also, always think of this when I hear millennials

They are millennials but there's nothing wrong with specifying that they're an older millennial because there are some differences. I'm in the same boat being born in 88.

having been born in 1983, I'm absolutely a millennial.

I see the difference between people my age, and those born a decade later, but the differences are largely superficial. The younger millenials are a bit more aloof and inconsiderate in my opinion, but we still have the things that matter in common. I sip my monster and enjoy mowing my lawn, but that's about where the differences end.

On the other side, the differences are much more apparent: I have coworkers that are 4-5 years older than me, and I have absolutely nothing in common with them.

Wikipedia states that "Gen X" is as early as 1961 & as late as 1984 depending on whose definition you're using.

That's how the line is drawn between millennials and Gen Z. Except in 1995, when Gen Z starts, something like 20% or less of the US had internet in their homes. Having Internet in your home wasn't common until about the mid 00s. In that regard, Gen Z should probably start at 2000.

Edit: Of course, these stats are including the entire US. Most of us grew up in densely populated areas where everyone knew since about the 1990s had Internet.

I knew what the internet was, I just didn't have it. I grew up in the hood, only one of my group of friends had it until our late teens brought wide broadband.

I think the point would be more like if any regular American can not remember life before the internet then they are a different generation than me. Which would put the line earlier.

Anyways this is an issue you run into with pretty much any given generation label

Only workaround is by shortening 'generations' to like 5 years but then that'd be really stupid. The name 'millennials' was not defined by 'growing up in the digital age' it was defined by growing up around the start of the new millennium
