I want as many as possible without egregious criminal records to be able to come in, but it still needs to be done in an orderly fashion where they are accounted for by the government

Right. I should clarify that I think they should be let in through the proper channels and we shouldn't just turn everybody away, absolutely not.

I'm just saying that just turning a blind eye to those breaking in is not good, and thus the tear gas deterrent is fair.

One thing I'm curious about - and neither NYT or WaPo elaborate on other than mentioning it was essentially the catalyst - is that this all seemed to start when the Mexican police blocked the migrants and closed down the pedestrian path to the port of entry with anti-riot gear. Being blocked, some of them tried to bypass that and ended up at various parts of the border/fence. But on what basis did Mexico act to impede them?

This needs to not get lost.

If the path for entering legally was forcibly blocked then more or less everyone's hands were forced here.
