Imagine if someone promoted a white vacation away from black people.

They do, it's called sandals resorts.

That's interesting. Despite having seen their commercials on TV for years, I only know one person IRL who actually went there and that's one of my black coworkers who went with his wife last year. From what I remember, he seemed to describe the trip favorably. But I guess maybe he didn't realize he wasn't supposed to go there or all the people working there didn't realize that he and his wife are black.

as a Caribbean native, as someone who grew up around people who look like myself, I can somewhat sympathize with the girls. They want to be in a community with people who look like them and they feel like the odd ones out in their community.

I agree. I also feel isolated when i walk into mcdonald's and i'm the only white person in the place and then they served me a soggy egg that was brown on the bottom because they were too lazy to clean the grill also my soda had barely any ice in it and they pulled my hash brown from the fryer too early i stopped going there now i go to burger king across the street much better

I don't believe it's wrong for black people to do things for other black people.

Saying things like what this lady said is wrong though, because it is racist.

Anyway, did you end up withdrawing your previous claim?

What previous claim? About the disparity in black and white wealth and the history behind it? That's not a claim, it's a fact.

"White people uplifting other white people" doesn't work when that often meant at the expense of other races. Black people uplifting others doesn't usually mean putting down other races. White uplifting whites almost always led to that.

The criticism may be heavy handed for you specifically, but it's a continuation of post 234. The first post I saw from you after that was a disconnected argument that's been addressed many times over in this topic. The subsequent progression toward this current unsubstantial snarky opinion isn't exactly a good look. It's why the fragility label has been levied in the topic.

I mean, it's a fucking women's retreat. People on here have had the audacity to say that white supremacist groups aren't a threat or anything to worry about and want to tell black people their suspicions and apprehensions about such subjects are unfounded or unrealistic. Some of those same people have posted in this topic and used your first argument as a tool to fucking cry about this shit. That's what fucking fragility looks like.

That's why I think the criticism was levied your way.

Its to the point where I dont even know where to begin other than to say that in my whole life I cant imagine saying, my whiteness is powerful.

A) Play Ikaruga
B) It's a fucking advertisement for an island vacation. With that context in mind, I hope it might be easier to understand why the label of fragility was employed and why there's exasperation about there always being some fucking criticism whenever black identity is involved.

I mean, if people want to call it racist, fine. It's also outside of the US so legality isn't an issue. And yet here in this topic, there are people who just want to fucking throw in their two cents and be self absorbed with this "what if it were about white people?" shit. In a topic about women going to a retreat to escape from white people. They know what answer they're driving at and instead of saying directly how they feel about the situation, they want to fucking talk about white identity and take over the conversation. They want to take over any conversation about race and make it about themselves in anyway imaginable. They didn't ask that question to listen to the response and form some mutual understanding. They asked it to make the conversation about them. How can black people talk about race in a way that will be acknowledged and listened to? What does it take to get a W? In a topic about women getting together and being able to share and relate their experiences and be listened to and have self affirmation, there's the element of people who want to make it about white people.

I hope this sheds some light on both the criticism you've received in this topic and why this retreat is even a thing. What's it take to get a motherfucker to shut up for a second and actually attempt to listen? "What if it weren't about white people for a second?" What can black people do to be able to talk about race and their identity that will be able to be digestible for the MAGA crowd? What can black people do to get the MAGA crowd to shut the fuck up about their feelings when someone else is trying to share theirs? To bridge that miles wide gap is to have an understanding of what it is like to be a minority via sympathy or empathy.

C) "It's okay to be white" is what is said.

@Kineth

I appreciate the thoughtful reply. Speaking for myself, I probably can come across as seeming like Im saying what about white people in conversations similar to this. The reason isnt because I am even remotely interested in taking a vacation from X race, but because I dont think diversity works when there is also diversity in standards. And its hard to point that out without referencing how bad a white version of the OP would look.

Its interesting how a lot of white and black people feel like its their side that is always shut down from having conversations about race. Im not sure how that disconnect ever changes.

Black people don't feel like their side isn't listened to. Black people feel like they are not listened to as individuals. I mean, a protest group based on the notion of protesting police brutality was not listened to because it had a name that made people feel things. A guy can't take a knee without losing his job and getting treated like a whipping boy. A fucking pro athlete protested and it got received so ridiculously. It fucking made white people uncomfortable to see a professional athlete protest over race issues.

Some white people feel like their whiteness is under attack. Black people's identity has been under attack for a fucking 400 year long campaign in this country. It's ridiculous that this is a literal primal tribalistic thing and it's maddening that people always use black people as the de facto opposite for white people. The minority identity is always black people. It was make sense that the de facto opposite for black people would be white people because white people are the majority and black people are a minority. But that's the thing. White people's race isn't why they're the opposite, it's because they're the majority. ..

Frankly, white people think white people are under attack because other white people told them that they're under attack and it's because of this made up idea that people think that their views on whiteness are what minorities must think of whiteness. Black people have been talking about things for years and these same people who act like they aren't listened to would respond with some shit like "duh well wudda bout black on black crime"

And I'm sorry, you wanna talk about diversity in standards? White pride is based on hating others. Minority pride is based on inclusivity and self-affirmation. The difference in standards isn't anyone's fault but history. White people can be proud of their German heritage, their French, English, etc heritage and take fucking trips to the family land out in Scotland, Ireland, Bavaria, etc etc.. WHITE PEOPLE CAN ALREADY DO THAT. But that's not good enough is it now? White people have no reason to be making this shit about themselves here. That's why this trip is a fucking thing and why you're wearing my patience real thin.

some families have more basis to their claims than others. some people blame their own poor choices on others when the ramifications are less than favorable. this is why we emphasize on the importance of context and nuance. the importance of cause & effect. the importance of responsibility, accountability, education and empathy.

some people have long family histories of being down with the shit until the shit makes their house stink enough to attract criticism.

the thought of owning up to one's own participation and complacency about something considered horrible makes many uncomfortable.

I dont think the majority / minority difference explains that much. I lived in LA for a while where nobody is a majority and if you or I said, man, I really need a vacation from Mexicans we would get destroyed. There is only one group you can direct a comment like that towards without being pushed out of polite society, and that fact goes across borders. That sloppiness gives ammo to people who want to say that whites are under attack. To take an example that goes far beyond the OP, recall the asian racist who still works for NYT after spreading her hatred of whites on twitter. Now compare that situation to Marc Lamont Hill getting fired after his comments about Israel and Palestine.

The OP goes beyond cultural pride. My wife is a Japanese immigrant and Ive been to plenty of events that are for her group. Its fine and no different from your example of English pride.

Then you're gonna have a hard time understanding minorities. Period.

I'm really tired and need to get some sleep. You did a real big swing and a miss there with this idea that I should be concerned with the idea that whites are under attack. The people who have the nerve to criticize words, live and die by hiding all the vile shit they say behind closed doors. Dog whistle racism has been a thing for awhile.

The white moderate is who I am concerned about. A white supremacist's warped reality is something I don't give a shit about. It's why I don't go out seeking videos of people talking bad about me.

First, I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season.

You argue respectfully, but you're just not getting it. You know who should be arguing with the white supremacists? Their fucking family members.

Imagine if someone promoted a white vacation away from black people.

it'd be shut down in a heart beat. Alt righters would say "See we told you, they hate white people" and anyone disagreeing with the shutdown would be called hitler.

And that would prove the alt rights point honestly.

Really this vacation not being universally condemned proves their point.
