If you murder the entire population that uses the scooters, there's no more demand for them. Ipso facto, no more shit ass scooters.

Though I do like the Portland way of handling them, just throw them in a fucking lake.

You'd also probably end up in prison, and that is likely far more annoying.

I don't know. I think there's something to be said about the image of a hipster asshole zooming off on scooter only to careen out of control when he realizes he has no brakes.

Maybe in urban cities but on trails, horses and their riders have the right-of-way followed by cyclists and then hikers. Far easier for a hikers to step aside than a cyclist to swerve around the hiker. I do not mountain bike but I would rather step off a trail and leave a smaller mark than have a cyclist go off the trail and leave a bigger mark behind. Plus some trails are too narrow/steep for a cyclist to go around.

People in most places in the States are so uneducated about how to deal with cyclists it's almost scary being one.

I stand corrected. What articles and trail etiquette guides I found states the cyclist should yield to the hikers. Both still yield to horse though. I guess it really depends on the individual hiker. I personally yield to cyclists just so they do not need to come to a halt, especially if they are riding uphill.

Most trails I know of that allow cyclists are wide enough for cyclists to pass single pedestrians pretty comfortably (hence cyclists are allowed), and explicitly say that everybody should keep to the right of the trail and pass on the left, using a bell if on a bike. I'm not sure if they explicitly dictate right of way between cyclists and pedestrians, but I do know that they put horses ahead of everybody and ATV's behind everybody, which just makes sense. I've never particularly had problems biking or hiking on those trails, provided I maintain some situational awareness and don't take up more than half the trail when a bike's coming up from behind, so it seems to work well enough.

Depends on the area but theyre all over the place in a lot of urban areas

Theyre kind of a neat thing themselves but like so many other things theyre ruined by stupid people. They get tossed around all over the place, are constantly breaking, and it seems like the majority of people that use them have no clue how to do so safely and end up causing a hazard for both drivers and pedestrians.
