DKC didn't come to play as Dixie's adventure embarrasses Earthsiege in its opener. Vectorman gets a decent win, and Quake looks respectable in its victory. Persona, on the other hand, just avoids getting upset by a game that is not only a PC exclusive, but a PC exclusive based on a sport that isn't popular here.

This site in general, let alone Board 8, could care less about traditional sports games. In fact, the only one to ever win a match in any of my tournaments was Madden '04 in the 2003 tournament. NASCAR 2 didn't go to the winner's circle, but it looked like a champ in its loss.

I watched a fair bit of Bad Mojo and it's a trip - if any year would be the year of "weird FMV game where you play as a cockroach" it's 1996 for sure. I like Guardian Heroes though - the artstyle has always kinda put me off (it looks like something I could draw in MSpaint with enough time) but it's a fun little beat-em-up with some cool mechanics.

I've never actually played the original Tomb Raider! I'm sort of skeptical I would like it that much nowadays, but I'm more skeptical I'd like an early-3D snowboarding game even more. Never played Cool Boarders - I was an N64 kid so 1080 Avalanche was the one I had but I think that's a year later? Are snowboarding games still around? They were all the rage in the late 90's/early 00's but I haven't thought about them in a while. I've never really been able to get into them much.

I think I vaguely remember playing Police Trainer once? I recall it being fun. I kinda miss the golden age of light gun games just a little bit, they were always a blast to play. My opinion of early 3D fighters remains the same - okay for a quarter or two back in the day but didn't compare to the 2D fighters of the era.

This was a job for Google, cause even I didn't know!

Late 90s gave us Cool Boarders and 1080 of course. Early 2000s gave us SSX, Amped, and Shaun Palmer's Pro Snowboarding (released in the same Activision extreme phase as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX, and Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer).

But after that? Shaun White Snowboarding in 2008, an SSX reboot in 2012, and Steep in 2016. The extreme sports phase died pretty much, though the remake of THPS 1-2 could change that!
