Are you one of those people that trusts a driver will yield to you if you're about to cross the street or are you the hesitant kind who won't step a foot on the road until all cars have stopped?.

You know what they say. Drivers are unpredictable, and just like driving, you should never trust a driver to do what they should be doing even if they have signals on...and it's even more serious when you're the pedestrian and despite having the right of way to cross, you shouldn't be one of those people to just jump out onto the street until they stopped either..but people still do it anyway and just go for it..even though there's a high chance of getting hit and DYING..

Some people, even when theyre not at crosswalks, dont care. They just walk into the street and put their hand up commanding drivers to stop. Its the weirdest thing. And Ive seen it many times. And in different states. I dont really understand why people assume thats fine...

Yeah. I agree with this comment. I think I even remember hearing that in China (I think), they try to kill you when you run out in traffic specifically so they wont have to pay out. Personally, I wouldnt want to take the risk I might get a ton or money if Im paralyzed. And its useless (to me) dead...

Dude, I don't even trust people not to walk into me at a grocery store when they're looking directly at me. So no, I don't trust that people will automatically stop if I'm in a crossswalk. -_-

No I don't trust but being too hesitant also causes confusion. Stay aware and be ready for assholes.

Almost got run over when I was in the MIDDLE of a crosswalk last year from someone who would have ran the stop sign. Older couple all like "oh geez so sorry" and I'm like you're literally an inch away from my body right now...

I was run off my bicycle by a car, and a few months later was within inches of being flattened again by a car running a red light. No I always wat until the green man shows, keep checking as I walk across the road - people are mental these days when the drive. I don't know what causes these otherwise amiable people that when they enter a vehicle they turn into a monster.

It only does if they traveled solely by sidewalk and it was long enough to get anywhere. Otherwise, it's just going for a short walk between buildings or through a park, or something.

On a side note: Huh, I guess Noop/TP made another failed attempt to get banned rather than going through with closing their account like they said they were going to do. Suspended. Again. I wonder how long that is going to keep going before Noop finally just closes their account(s), with all this time and energy going towards trying to be banned. <_<

I drive everywhere, as well as order everything and use drive-thrus.

there are some minor exceptions like walking less than a block in a residential area with no sidewalks.

there's only the one really major exception that I can think of where I actually walked a good number of blocks to the store and back with family and friends, but it didn't really involve any crosswalks, or at least none that crossed in the middle of a roadway.

I have to go back decades to think of a time when I would have used a real crosswalk regularly. (if we count traffic lights, then there would have been one I guess on the walk to and from classes at the university).

Bans are only handed out by admin, not mods. It'll be a suspension until it gets reviewed. I'd be surprised if he wasn't banned this time

You're not wrong, but I am somehow doubtful the ban will actually come. It seems to me like the mods and admin know what's up, and want Noop to just put in for accounts closure already, but then again perhaps I am not seeing everything there is to be seen here.

Technically, the question is asking specifically about crosswalks. Which is different than just being a pedestrian. Even when I was a kid and wed walk from my grandmas house to my friends house, it was like a half hour walk crossing many streets. And none of them had crosswalks. So, its easy to understand that if someone doesnt walk often how they would probably not use one. And even at my job I left last year, wed go walking all around the neighborhoods on Saturdays. And youd barely see any crosswalks, if you even saw one at all. And we were all over the place...

I imagine it varies a bit by region, but around here, the law is that every intersection is to be treated as though it has a crosswalk, regardless of whether or not one is painted. That means cars are expected to yield to pedestrians crossing at any corner, though in practice many do not, and the pedestrians generally have to do more to indicate their intent to cross because drivers don't pay as much attention when a crossing is unmarked.

there definitely have been times in my life when I regularly used crosswalks, but that was before I owned a car. and there have been times when I was regularly a pedestrian walking multiple blocks, but not in quite a few years now, and that had nothing to do with crosswalks.

Not necessarily. If you do, good for you. But not everybody does. Where I live, I dont park and walk for store to store. I drive to the store I need. And then I drove to the next store I need. Sometimes, you dont need to park and walk to different stores.

Easily. I havent crossed one in a while. And I walk around my neighborhood with my dogs. And go to different stores in the area. Some places dont have crosswalks all over the place...

I find adequate ones, yes. do we count walking a few dozen feet in a parking lot as crossing a crosswalk? a crosswalk is a very specific thing.

and the ones I think we're talking about in this thread are the "middle of the road" ones, where your presence is actually interrupting the flow of traffic, and at a designated point in the road. technically traffic lights have crosswalks but don't have the same "are they gonna stop for me or not?" "walk-of-faith" issue.

using a crosswalk to cross a road through relatively busy traffic is not something I've done in many decades. it is something I did regularly before I owned a car. at the time I probably trusted cars more than I would now, which is why I can't really answer accurately, since at my current level of life experience, I haven't been in that situation.

related to this, one car accident I was in was caused by a pedestrian using a crosswalk without looking. lady with a baby carriage just walks right into the crosswalk with her friend without looking, during busy traffic and with slushy slippery road conditions. I was just barely able to stop in time, but the guy in the lane on my left only managed to stop by banging up against the side of my car. the pedestrian then gave us dirty looks and kept going, despite coming very close to being hit.

Its pretty normal. Different places are different. And not everyone likes to go shopping at multiple different places all the time. And when Im at malls, the inside doesnt have crosswalks. Youre the one I feel lives in a bizarro world if you cant understand how peoples lives are different. Even at my hometowns outdoor mall, you dont need crosswalks to get across the street. People just cross wherever. And like @Sahuagin said, a crosswalk is Avery specific thing. And thats if people even cross. Many dont. And in certain cities, crossing isnt needed. Like where I live, most of the time, all the stores are on the same side. And that eliminates the need to cross. And when going to another section, it makes more sense to drive because of the distance...

I look both ways before starting the go across and continue to look both ways.

Years ago I had the right-of-way to cross at a signal intersection but sees this car with music blasting approaching the intersection. Something felt off so I waited and sure enough the driver was not paying attention and hard braked to stop half-way over the walkway. Had I assumed he would stop, I woulda gotten hit.
