I'm about to finish trails the 3rd, and debating on starting on cold steel or playing some other games for a little while. I definitely enjoyed trails but I've seen some people say Cold Steel is better, just wondering if that's the general opinion or not

I beat 3rd and it was great. Excited to keep playing more trails now. I was looking into these crossbell games because apparently they are just as good as the sky games and I didn't know much about them. I'm seeing that the second one has a translation patch coming out soon but not yet? Does anyone know anything else about that?

Luckily for you, the Geofront patch for Trails to Azure is very very close to being released, so if you start Trails from Zero now depending on your pace it might only be a week or two. You'll be able to play all the Trails games with high quality translations in order

Cold Steel easily for me even though SC is maybe the best game in the series with CSIII being a contender as well. On average though CS was more enjoyable. FC was too slow and 3rd felt like a fanfic epilogue game more than a mainline entry.

If it's that close to being released I guess I did do this at the right time then lol. I'll go through and get Zero now and get started, then. Are there any mods that are important for the crossbell games? I had japanese voices mods for trails 1-3 and those were pretty essential imo

Nope, Geofront is all you need

SC > CS3 > CS4 > CS1 = CS2 > 3rd > FC

Which I guess translates to Cold Steel by a bit.

I liked Cold Steel a lot more than Sky FC and the half-ish of SC I played, so I think you should definitely play CS1 at least!

Cuz there are voices for Zero/Azure as well.

Zero had the voices.

I'm not sure why Japanese voice mods were essential for Sky though.

I was reading the latest update on the Geofront website and in their most recent update it says they're coming out with an update for Zero soon as well. So maybe it would be best to wait at this point for that

Are they? I've played Sky on Vita and Steam and they had English voice acting on both.

I played all 3 Sky games on steam and there was definitely no voice acting. There's minor lines for some battle abilities but that's it. Scenes are unvoiced

People patch in the voices from the evolution versions on vita

I never bothered to play the sky games with voices but both crossbell games I did with the voices patched in

I'd say SC Chapter 6 specifically is peak Trails.

But Cold Steel overall is so good.
