Point was, you don't want to force a state to do something they don't want to do and have to listen to everyone at least a little, otherwise you get violence.

They would get listened to a little with the popular vote. What part of this do you not comprehend?

If we only went by the popular vote, we might as well do away with one of the political parties since it will always be the biggest populations of people making decisions for everyone. In other words, no balance.

Yes, where would we be without the fair and balanced GOP perspective? Can't forget that. We should definitely tilt the scales to help them out. Maybe throw in a little voter suppression too.

Lets just be honest. The reason we will never get rid of the EC is because democrats outnumber republicans. Its not about fairness to small states. The elections are won by 5 mid size states now and thats what keeps the GOP around in the WH.

We cant have just one party that's called a dictatorship. So either we make more parties or we put up with the necessary evil which is the Republican party. Honestly I'd go with the former but the US seems dead set on a coin flip every election.

To put it into simple terms, if we go by the popular vote, then what happens is the few states with highest populations of people (California, Texas, New York, etc.) will be making the decisions on how the entire country lives. Smaller states like Delaware, Rhode Island, Idaho, Nebraska, etc, would basically have no say so in anything. And that can lead to riots, protests, and possibly revolution.
no, that situation is more likely now since winning 50.0000001 in a state like california gets you all of cali's votes. as it is, "swing states" determine elections

popular vote

1 american
1 vote

how it should be

Straight-up popular vote would require an amendment, or SCOTUS grossly stretching the 24th amendment.

I'm aware. Doesn't change my opinion that's how it should work.

There's also that state pact to assign electoral college votes according to the popular vote.

Free and fair elections between what parties? You literally cannot hold an election with only one party the party you have wins by default.

Just because the Republican Party has become so reprehensible and backwards that they would literally never win a popular vote doesn't mean they deserve to stay in the game as a necessary evil.

The democrats right now are cobbled together from different parties. What a popular vote would do is force the parties to change their policies based on what the people actually want, not what 5 states want.

And if they split into 3 or 4 parties that would be fine but as it stands right now theres only 2 parties and if one of those parties was removed from play youd have a one party system, aka a dictatorship. I don't know why this is so hard for you people to digest.

This is the only way EC could work fairly. As of now 38 points went straight to Trump by Texas while 5 million votes were pretty much null and void. Wouldn't it be more fair if 20 went to Trump and 18 to Biden since Trump barely won majority?

I see little problem with just doing popular vote.

If we keep the Electoral College, we should completely re-organize the States so they're more proportionate. Split California into like 3 states, Texas was originally supposed to be 5, slap North Dakota/South Dakota/Wyoming/Montana together, Florida/New York/etc.. can all be multiple states, etc...

Or a more proportionate voting system than an electoral college and the popular vote. The Popular Vote is dumb and shouldn't be the way to elect people, but that doesn't make the electoral college any less dumb.

How would you feel if state elections were won or lost because 500 people in some rinky dink area of the state voted one way, while 500,000 people voted another way?

It makes no sense to make some votes simply worth more than others.
