I've been calling it the Richard Spencer Effect. Before he was punched, Richard Spencer was a nobody that most people hadn't heard of. Afterwards, he was a big name and was given fame and the chance to spread his abhorrent views even wider.

Sure it feels good to punch someone like that, but would you have heard about this guy if he had never been hit? Now he has a national platform for his views. Punching him literally handed him a platform that he can use to spread his views.

This is literally untrue. If you actually follow Spencer's career trajectory it peaked the day before that punch. After that he became the subject of ridicule and he slowly lost all of his clout within his own movement to the point where now he's dirt poor (lawsuits and legal fees tied to Charlottesville play a huge part in this) and living in his mom's basement and has declared the movement that he helped create to be dead.

Same thing, 2004 through to today. You'll notice that spike? The top spike is January 2017...That smaller spike is the one day in November I talked about above.
