It happens anyway.

Quests happen in a time bubble of when they were introduced. Same thing happens if you level Dragoon after finishing Heavensward and meet Estinien there, etc

I beat Carnivale fight 31 and finished the BLU job quest line! I havent really tried any of the really hard content in 14, so I dont know how that fight stacks up, but it was fun trying to master it.

Spent a bunch of time today grinding out the white scrip gathering gear, then got my skysteel hatchet and upgraded my HW relic to hyperconductive. Because why focus on one thing as quickly as possible when I can do a bunch of stuff really slowly instead?

Apparently was confirmed that yes, he's a different clan of Roe, sort of like how we dont have playable fat Miqote.

And that's a shame.

I would argue none of those characters are plot relevant in any significant way though, which is the point I was trying to make. Minor villains and/or relegated to side-quest content. After Merlwyb and Gosetsu the most story relevant roe is probably, in a very distant third, Moenbryda - and she was last seen in ARR!

I know this is the XIV topic, and I don't mean to be a downer, but WoW makes me sad.

I loved playing enhancement shaman for years and years. I just looked at the returning set bonuses for the class and it is the same shit they did several times already and it is RNG and boring.

It hurts me physically to have a rough estimate of what my /played in wow is.

In brighter news, I think I am ready to start cleaning up my inventory so I actually can be organized for Endwalker. I probably won't try anything too difficult in terms of content still as my will to do anything that needs my actual focus is dead, but damn is mining and crafting hilariously fun.

My inventory and armoury chest I don't think are in too bad a state. I tossed out everything there used for leveling as it was just taking up space. My glamour dresser is the thing I'm dreading needing to clear out... That thing is almost at capacity after years of slowly dumping vaguely interesting looking gear in there.

I cleaned out my armory chest last night and did a quick pass through my inventory and retainers, but it's going to take more time to clean everything out because I insist on desynthing everything and selling the resulting materials on the MB for a couple hundred gil each. I have brain worms.

I love FFXIV's mining because I see what people are buying that day and just have fun for a bit.

My inventory, especially my retainers, has been in a perpetual state of complete disarray since I started playing the game and I doubt it will ever change unless they massively overhaul how retainers work + the UI involved in managing them.

Also I have a habit of putting a bunch of stuff in the chocobo saddlebag and then completely forgetting that even exists. I just discovered it again today and was like "oh yeah I have all this stuff in here".

My chocobo saddlebag was mostly bait and one of my main motivations for trying to fill my fishing log was so I could empty some of it out!

Very silly question because I know the answer is going to be large, but I'm curious to know because come June my free time is going to disappear: if I were to mainline the entire story (as in ARR through Endwalker) from the point I've reached in Heavensward (just killed Nidhogg, gave Hraesvelgar his eye back, and warded off the heretic assault on Foundation), how long would it take me to complete? Knowing how I play games, I don't think I'll be able to do it in 7 months whatever the amount of time is, but it would still be nice to at least have a quantifiable number. Is each expansion roughly the same length? I completed ARR like a year and a half ago and took a break in the middle of it as well as my current run so my memory of how long that took is hazy.

Shadowbringers > ARR > Stormblood > Heavensward?

ARR might be longer than Shadowbringers, it's hard to say because for every other expansion I can go by story beats, while with ARR there's enormous chunks of nothing that I can't judge too well in hindsight. I know Heavensward is the shortest for sure. We're not talking a super significant difference here, though.

Endwalker is supposed to be the longest by a significant margin, though, but that just comparing the x.0 content, not patch stuff.

Getting back into this after a bit over a year away. Will also be leveling another class for the first time - any advice for that? Playing Dark Knight, so I started at 30. Did the daily leveling quest, not sure what the way to go after doing that is.

Also forgot an embarrassing amount of stuff. Got stuck in the first dungeon I did because I forgot you could jump...

Your options for leveling quickly are basically

1. First do your roulettes (leveling, alliance raid, and MSQ are all good exp/time value, though MSQ might drive you insane after a while). You only get a bonus once per day for each type of roulette.
2. Run the highest non-level cap (i.e. not 50, 60, 70, or soon 80) dungeon you have available (faster option for tanks/healers since you'll have shorter queues)
3. Run Palace of the Dead (1-60) floors 51-60 or Heaven on High (61-70) floors 21-30; probably faster than dungeons for dps given queues but it gets very boring after a while
4. For 71-80 you have Bozja instead which I definitely prefer to PotD or HoH
5. Grand Company Squadrons from 1-60 (basically running dungeons solo with a dumb but strong set of AI party members; this is actually my preferred low level method but it's not as popular and requires you to build up a squad first)
6. Trusts from 71-80 (solo dungeons with smart but weak AI; definitely slower than running them with other people)

There isn't a squad/trust analogue from 61-70. You also can do Beast Tribe quests, but only the Shadowbringers one gives what I would consider significant exp.

If you just picked up DRK I'd highly suggest running Satasha or the other really low level dungeons until you're comfortable tanking. It's not nearly as bad as GNB starting at 60, but learning in a higher level dungeon isn't ideal for anyone (also probably a good idea to do Hall of the Novice).

Other than always doing Leveling queue obviously, under 30 the best way to level is either Palace of the Dead (boring) or queing for the highest accessible dungeon (takes longer). Once you get 50 you can throw MSQ roulette AKA YouTube & Chill, as well as Alliance roulette. Frontline Roulette (PvP) is also accessible and gives the best ratio of time to EXP in the game.

What level is your highest job? If you have one at cap super easy to clear out the Wondrous Trails log by running stuff solo unsynched, and then switch to a lower level job to actually turn the book in and get a ton of EXP.

Endwalker solution is give our new boy his cutscene strength.

Also unless you're goal specifically is to level trusts, no real reason to do them as a Helaer or Tank.

I tried doing the dungeons with party members during Shadowbringers and it was SO PAINFULLY SLOW. Took twice as long as doing it with humans. I'd rather wait in a 30 minute queue than use the AI allies.

I have a level 80 Black Mage. It's the only other class I've played. How much EXP does it give? That seems like it might be a bit tedious, but it's an interesting alternative.

Thanks for the advice in general! Especially the thing about 50/60/70/80 dungeons giving bad XP. I've done okay in the few dungeons I've tried so far, other than one where I pulled a couple mob groups into a boss room lol...

Will say that the level cap dungeon ROULETTE gives OK exp daily but not great. Trial and Normal Raid roulette give basically nothing. Guildhest roulette is beyond worthless.

How much EXP does it give? That seems like it might be a bit tedious, but it's an interesting alternative.

Difficulty depends on what you get. Always take it as early as you can in case something you get early in week during roulettes ends up on the board. You always get 3 level 50 extreme trials you can easily finished unsynched level 80 solo in no time. Any dungeon it's asking you to do between level 1-60 is a cake walk to unsynch. Level 50 Raids will depend on which one due to the inconsistent difficulty, luck of the draw. If you get lucky, Frontline will be on the board as well so that will be a freebie from Frontline roulette.

Actual EXP...it's level dependant, I think it's usually 1/2 - 3/4 of a level? The number of lines you make has 0 effect on EXP.
