They were a bottom-tier Seattle group IMO.

My least favorite of the "Big 4 of grunge". I liked Ten, but that was about it. Even then, it is not an album that I go back and listen to like Dirt, Superunknown, or In Utero.

Oh Jesus tough one but I think one who may have heard would be Jeremy, Black, or that cover of that 50s song "Oh where or where can my... BABY BEEEE???!!!"

But overall you can't really go wrong with their first album 'Ten', it was before they were big and it made them huge worldwide. God they used to play Jeremy on MTV like every 10 minutes lol

I kind of liked Jeremy when I first heard it, and thought Even Flow was kind of okay, but I mostly disliked everything else they did after. And I generally thought Eddie Vedder was a bit of a tool, which made me dislike the band even more.

I wasn't hugely into grunge as a genre, though, even at the height of its popularity (at a time when most of my peers were teenagers and into it). So that was a strike against them no matter what their music was like. Though I did like Alice in Chains and Stone Temple Pilots.

I mainly just liked Plush and Big Empty. And Interstate Love Song was kind of nice. Creep and Vasoline were pretty good, too. But it's not like I went much deeper than the singles releases with them (I couldn't really tell you what any of the other songs from Core or Purple sound like). And I thought they went kind of terrible when Tiny Music came out.

With Alice in Chains I actually bought the first three albums (and I really loved Jar of Flies - it was actually one of the first three CDs I ever bought) and got into most of the songs.

Yeah man, same here. Some of the girls we hung out with liked grunge a lot (one would just go on and on about friggin Mike Starr from AiC, Jesus Christ it was annoying) but me and my buddies were into Rush, Megadeth, and old (not the black album) Metallica. Pantera was coming on strong around then too with Vulgar Display of Power and Far Beyond Driven not too far down the road.

As an aside, when Starr got replaced by Inez she got super moody lol

Pearl Jam is fine, I do like some of their music. But they're kinda like the vanilla of the 90s rock scene, good, but there are bands that are far better and more interesting. I prefer my grunge a little heavier and with more bite.

I also remember when Plush came out, and that was never a thing for anyone.

Maybe you just mostly knew dumb people?

Maybe it's just a regional thing? I could see people in the Midwest being more clueless about it than people on the coasts... though I have no idea where you grew up.

I mean, I think more people compared Nirvana and Pearl Jam than I ever heard people comparing Pearl Jam and STP. Or the really snobby music types that would talk about Temple of the Dog being a sort of proto-Pearl Jam/Soundgarden combo supergroup before anyone knew or cared who any of those people were.
