Baby time! I haven't been sure what to do with the babies so I've been avoiding categories that would include them, but I've decided to just put them in their own two polls separate from the rest. I don't plan to do the evolutions of these folks tomorrow because they don't really have anything in common and it'd feel like a random selection of pokemon to compare (also they wouldn't fit into 10 slots), but if people would rather I did then let me know! The current plan is to do the 3-stage babies tomorrow.

At any rate gen 1 won't win the next couple of days because babies only span gens 2-4, with the weird exception of Toxel. Not sure why they abandoned the concept and brought it back for a single pokemon in gen 8 but whatever!

I love Wynaut's happy lil' face, but I do have a soft spot for Chingling.

I explicitly dislike all of those Pokemon.

I guess I'd pick Smoochum because I like its type combo and its evo, but... Ugh.

I've always really liked Tyrogue.

I'm not a fan of the babies as a whole, but I do think gen 4 did the best job with them. I picked Bonsly here, though Chingling is decent too. Truly a disaster that it is in last place behind Smoochum.

Yeah you're completely right, it's so weird it didn't get an evo too. Chimecho deserves more!

Nah, Chingling is cool.

My theory is that Chimecho was designed as a two stage line, but since it was a late addition to Gen 3, they had to wait another generation to give it the pre-evolution.

I'm glad they've mostly stopped this horseshit since the very chilly reception in gen 4

The best out of these is probably Riolu but I cast a vote for Tyrogue since Riolu's winning anyway and as a shout out to his role in the Pokemon Adventures manga.

These all kinda suck. Unnecessary at best, hideous at worst. Toxel and Riolu are chill, partially because they actually exist in the same generation as the rest of their family and aren't weird and useless late additions. Mantyke has a cool evolution method, and Tyrogue has an utterly infuriating one. Munchlax is also annoying because it's impossible to find in its debut generation and may as well not exist afterwards because you just find Snorlax in the wild anyway, normally.

Smoochum is probably the worst Pokemon ever. It's useless, ugly, and just generally gross.

I like the idea of making some of the standalone Pokemon two stages, but the reason I like that idea is largely negated by the 'baby' aspect. What I would want is to have earlier access to the line while playing through the campaign - they have eventually done this with some of them, but initially tying them to breeding pretty much limited them to dex completion fodder.

I'm happy Tyrogue conceptually exists but I hate the design and evolution methods. I actually really like Bonsly, Munchlax, and Mantyke's designs, but the later babies are especially hindered by the weird breeding requirements. I don't get why they can't just retcon them into existence instead of the whole incense thing - especially since we can still just breed for the fully-evolved version.
