Downloaded Tiberium Sun a little while ago and went through the first few missions. Kinda fun, interested to try the rest eventually.

Best RTS series ever made, and I say that as someone who played both the Warcraft series and the Starcraft series religiously when I was younger.

Love the series!!! I played C&C (1) soon after finishing WC2 (both came out around the same time I think) - and while the gameplay in WC2 was more streamlined, the plot of C&C was much more unique/engaging.

I had to force myself to play C&C 4, the gameplay change was so offputting - the plot ending was okay but I had really expected better after C&C3.

Hell March was such a cool way to start Red Alert 1. Youre just watching the opening, seeing all of the video cutscenes (which were still mind blowing at the time), getting excited to start the game for the first time.

The music was great from the beginning.

Loved the games, I even liked that FPS multiplayer one. Red Alert 2 was probably my favorite, Tiberian Sun was good too.

They released a 10 game box set, probably early 2000s that I owned, I burned through just about all of them except one that would never install right.

I've heard a lot of the music from them, which is always great, but I've never actually played any of them. Still worth checking out in today's age?

Id say yes. Maybe the original C&C would be a little rough around the edges today. Even the first Red Alert. But Red Alert 2 should absolutely still hold up.

And you dont need to play Red Alert 1 to play Red Alert 2. Red Alert 1 is a What if Hitler was killed before he rose to power? scenario, where you can either control the western allies or the Soviets in the new reimagined World War 2. Meanwhile, Red Alert 2 is just modern Russia invading the US, and a war ensuing (pretend that Russias failed attempt of taking over Ukraine never happened).

RA2 also had a large tonal shift from RA1, becoming more cheesy and intentionally embracing the campyness - I think they were trying to distinguish it from the grounded/serious C&C.

Personally I preferred the first, especially as RA was the first piece of media that introduced me to the "what if" genre of historical fiction, specifically the "unintended consequences" (Einstein time traveling to erase Hitler hoping to prevent WW2 and instead leading to the USSR being unchecked on it's eastern border)
